Montana State Hospital (MSH) provides inpatient psychiatric treatment for adults with serious mental illness. It is the only public psychiatric hospital in Montana, serving individuals from communities across the state. The facility includes 270 licensed beds, with 174 hospital beds, 42 adult group home beds, and 54 forensic mental health facility beds. Admissions are based on state law procedures and are for individuals whose needs exceed community mental health services. Coordination of treatment with community mental health providers and families is prioritized to ensure comprehensive care.
This is a full-time on-site role for a Recreation Therapist located in Butte, MT. The Recreation Therapist will be responsible for planning, implementing, and assessing recreational therapy programs for patients. Daily tasks include conducting therapeutic recreation activities, maintaining progress notes, and utilizing various forms of therapy such as art therapy. The goal is to improve the mental, emotional, and physical well-being of patients through structured recreational activities.
- Skills in Recreation, Therapeutic Recreation, and holding a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) certification
- Experience in maintaining and documenting Progress Notes
- Proficiency in Art Therapy and related therapeutic techniques
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work collaboratively with other healthcare professionals
- Bachelor's degree in Therapeutic Recreation, Recreation Therapy, or a related field
