Duties and Responsibilities
Parking Compliance
Conduct foot and vehicle patrols of university parking lots Monitor parking lots, the university parking garage, and designated parking areas to ensure compliance with university parking rules and regulations Issue appropriate citations for observed violations of university parking regulations Identify vehicles requiring impound/tow and initiate the process Appropriately and accurately utilize the T2 parking software system Maintenance, oversight, data entry, uploads and user management of handheld enforcement devices Assist with setting up temporary parking signs, cones, and barricades for special events, construction, or emergencies Assist in managing the Parking Services email account and communicate in a timely manner with visitors, faculty, staff and students Obtain motor vehicle records to properly identify registered owners of motor vehicles Assist with updating and distribute parking regulations as required Participate in the hiring and training of student workers Assist the UPD Administrative Associate with oversight of the student ticket writers to include scheduling, onboarding and other related duties Assist with the management and coordination of the "Reserved Parking" program Assist with the creation and maintenance of lot survey and usage reports Identification of potential problems/issues related to parking on campus and provide recommended resolutions Maintain accurate records, including entry, storage and retrieval systems, and improve physical filing systems and storage facilities Assist with community engagement opportunities to promote parking services and student ticket writer employment opportunities Other duties as assigned
QUALITIES
Must pass an in-depth background investigation prior to final employment offer Must possess and maintain the ability to give credible testimony in a court of law Must demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills Ability to remain calm in stressful situations Ability to represent the University Police Department and Parking Services in a professional and courteous manner Problem solving and time management skills Adequate knowledge of primary duties, parking regulations, MSUB and University Police policies and procedures Knowledge of Microsoft Office products (Outlook, Word and Excel) and Banner Ability to multi-task Exercise confidentiality and accountability Relay information both written and verbal; complete timely and accurate reports Use of designated computer programs, including T2 and Banner Communication skills; written and verbal Customer and coworker relations Inter-office and interagency communications Organizational problem-solving skills Timeliness: initiative and perseverance (goal-oriented) Overall knowledge of university parking lots

Brief Position Overview
- THIS IS AN INTERNAL POSTING ONLY!*The Parking Enforcement Officer position is located at the University Police Department. The principal focus of the Parking Enforcement Officer is to promote compliance to university parking regulations through fair and consistent education and enforcement. Parking Services and the University Police Department accomplish this goal by promoting and publishing University parking regulations; displaying appropriate regulatory signage; providing convenient access to purchase required permits for University students, faculty and staff; issuing citations and collecting fines for observed violations; providing an impartial appeals process; and maintaining accurate records. Under the supervision of the University's Chief of Police, or their designee, the Parking Enforcement Officer conducts foot and vehicle patrols of university parking lots in order to enforce campus parking regulations and ensure a safe parking experience on campus. Some of the duties will include patrolling campus parking areas; issuing citations; training and instructing student ticket writers and officers on the use of the T2 handheld computer and parking management software; provide information about the university to visitors; routinely work assignments to assist with parking for special events and athletic events; and provide motorist assistance. It is expected that the person holding this position will meet or exceed the requirement listed in the duties and responsibilities.
