The Phlebotomist position in the clinical laboratory of Medical Services, part of the department of Student Health Services within the division of Student Success.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Performs essential laboratory procedures.
- Verifies laboratory test requests.
- Confirms patient identification.
- Collects blood specimens through venipuncture.
- Monitors glucose levels via point-of-care testing.
- Collects throat and nasopharyngeal specimens.
- Performs COVID specimen collections.
- Instructs patients on proper sample collection techniques.
- May also perform waived laboratory testing as needed.
Required Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills
- Phlebotomy experience, including proficiency in venipuncture.
- Ability to work efficiently in a busy healthcare environment.
- Strong attention to detail and sound judgment.
- Professional demeanor and strong communication skills.
- Familiarity with HIPAA regulations and privacy guidelines.
- Ability to follow safety standards and maintain a healthy work environment.
Preferred Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills
- Experience working in a college health or similar outpatient setting.
- Experience with point-of-care testing and specimen collection procedures (e.g., nasopharyngeal swabs, throat swabs).
- Knowledge of electronic health record (EHR) systems and laboratory information systems.
- Certification in Phlebotomy or other relevant laboratory skills.
- Experience performing waived laboratory testing.
