The Diversity & Inclusion Student Commons (DISC) and Montana State University is seeking a highly energetic and organized professional to support students and other members of the institution. The DISC is one of the most dynamic and engaged offices on campus. We promote inclusion and understanding of difference, support students from underrepresented identity groups, and encourage critical thinking about diversity topics.

General Statement :
The mission of the Diversity & Inclusion Student Commons (DISC) is to increase understanding, promote inclusion, and inspire critical thinking about diversity, as well as to provide support for students who identify with a wide range of diverse identity groups. The DISC is a unit of the Office of Diversity and Inclusion. The Managing Director reports to the Senior Diversity and Inclusion Officer.
The Managing Director provides expertise on issues of access, equity, diversity and inclusion regarding student support services, community building, professional development best practices, and practical applications.
This position requires an understanding of the relevance of racial / ethnic identity, social justice theories, and student development theories, and an ability to work effectively with individuals and groups from a variety of identities, cultures, backgrounds and ideologies in a compassionate, culturally competent manner.
The Managing Director is responsible for bringing knowledge of student diversity and identity issues to conversations concerning the campus-wide community. The Managing Director is responsible for building partnerships across campus and providing information to the university community related to diversity and inclusion. The Managing Director develops and manages programs and events that serve underrepresented groups of MSU students and fosters an inclusive community.
Duties and Responsibilities :
- Coordinate and oversee direct support services to MSU students identifying with a wide range of underrepresented identities
Develop and implement programs to support underrepresented and / or marginalized students, and foster a sense of community and belonging among students
Actively work to create a campus culture that is welcoming to and inclusive of all identity groups
Develop annual and long-term strategic plans for the office

Work is typically performed in a normal office environment. There are, however, recurring and frequent early / late and weekend hours required. Limited travel is required.
