What are the responsibilities and job description for the Graduate Student Services Program Coordinator position at Montana State University?
The Student Services Program Coordinator works with campus partners to provide integrated services for graduate students as they near degree completion. Key components include students’ Programs of Study (POS), professional development opportunities for students as they plan their careers, and support for students as they format their theses and dissertations. The Student Services Program Coordinator will also compile the monthly newsletter. This person is responsible for DegreeWorks relational database system including some data entry.
Duties and Responsibilities
Under minimal supervision, the person in this position will:
- Assist students, faculty, and departments with student’s POS in the DegreeWorks relational database system.
- Support students as they format their theses and dissertations consistent with formatting and publication guidelines in preparation for documents to be published to dissertation repositories and open access databases.
- Present one thesis/dissertation seminar for students and faculty each semester.
- Independently review theses and dissertations to ensure that they conform to formatting guidelines and communicate with graduate students regarding necessary changes/revisions that must be made prior to accepting the thesis or dissertation on behalf of the Graduate School.
- Assemble and edit the monthly newsletter.
- Work with campus providers of graduate student professional development to increase student participation in their workshops, e.g., library, Writing Center, Allen Yarnell Student Success Center.
- Assist the Graduate Dean in communication with current graduate students.
- Work as a part of a team dedicated to supporting graduate students and graduate education on campus and contributing to the success of our students.
Required Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills
- Bachelor’s Degree in a related field or an equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Effective in explaining detailed and technical information to a variety of constituents.
- High level of organization with strict adherence to deadlines
- Demonstrated experience working independently, exercising sound judgment and making consistent decisions with minimal supervision with progressively responsible experience including interpreting policies and procedures.
- Demonstrated proficiency using personal computers and software, including word processing, spreadsheets, electronic calendars, and e-mail. Microsoft Office Suite strongly preferred.
Preferred Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills
- Experience working with graduate students.
- Experience using Banner and/or DegreeWorks software.
