Research Scientist I

• Independently and simultaneously manage multiple multi-million-dollar research projects; and ensure timely attainment of project milestones and objectives within schedule and budget constraints
• Author proposals to secure external funding and support long-term research initiatives.
• Prepare reports, deliverables, and presentations for funding agencies and collaborators
• Serve as a research advisor, committee member, and mentor for graduate students
• Supervise and mentor junior faculty members and post-docs; offer guidance on research strategies, project management, proposal writing, and professional development

• Ph.D. in Metallurgical and Materials Engineering, Materials Science, or a closely related field
• Proven ability to secure external funding
• Experience mentoring graduate and undergraduate student research.
• Experience supervising and mentoring junior faculty and research staff.
• Strong organizational and communication skills with a commitment to personal accountability.
• Documented evidence of excellent written communication skills including materials-related publications in high-impact journals and presentations at professional conferences.

• Experience in administering multi-million-dollar project budgets.
• Direct experience in conducting research funded by major Federal Government entities such as the Department of Defense, Department of Energy, and National Science Foundation.
• An outstanding record of service contributions, including outreach and recruitment activities.

• Must have a valid driver's license,
• be able to lift 50 lbs, walk and stand for long periods of time.
• Must be able to function effectively in laboratory or pilot plant environments while wearing personal protective equipment including respirators (fit testing may be required), steel-toed shoes, hard hats, safety glasses or goggles, hearing protection, fire retardant suits, and other PPE as designated by the safety officer and/or project manager.
