What are the responsibilities and job description for the School Psychologist position at Montcalm Area ISD?
Overview
The school psychologist collaborates with local district administrators and school based leadership teams on MTSS activities. This includes participation in problem solving teams and requires knowledge of data collection and analysis, curriculum based assessments, and tiered system changes and increased student outcomes. They may be assigned to leadership or support roles on school teams. As a member of intervention and special education teams, school psychologists play a significant role in the MTSS process. The School Psychologist can support the local district with system change.
Duties
- Conduct psychological assessments to evaluate students' cognitive, emotional, and social development.
- Provide individual and group counseling to students facing various challenges, including academic stress, behavioral issues, and personal crises.
- Collaborate with teachers and staff to develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) for students with special needs.
- Offer guidance on conflict management strategies to promote a positive school environment.
- Maintain accurate medical documentation related to student assessments and interventions.
- Work with families to provide support in child family counseling settings.
- Utilize knowledge of medical terminology and behavioral health practices in assessments and interventions.
- Advocate for students with developmental disabilities by providing resources and support tailored to their needs.
- Stay current with best practices in psychotherapy and social work related to school psychology.
Certification/ Qualifications:
Michigan Certification as School Psychologist OR
- A Fully licensed psychologist through Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA) OR
- Preliminary School Psychologist Certification
