Water Exercise Instructor

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Water Exercise Instructor will offer quality customer service to our members by teaching safe and functionally challenging classes that promote wellness concepts.  The instructor will promote other YMCA programs that help to promote our special events.  A FUN atmosphere should be created, and group interaction should be encouraged.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Provide quality member service everyday by pro-actively helping members, displaying a positive attitude and being courteous.
• Possess knowledge of wellness concepts and promote a well-rounded, healthy lifestyle though action and words.  Adhere to and support YMCA guidelines as it relates to all Water Exercise classes.
• Develop new routines and rotate music selection (if used) on a regular basis.
• Teach safe and functionally challenging classes.
• Adhere to the class style and format as listed on the Water Exercise schedule. 
• Be punctual for all classes.  Standard procedure is to arrive 10 minutes early, set up equipment, cue music and greet members. 
• Obtain, maintain, and keep current, all certification requirements of the YMCA.
• Properly maintain equipment used in Water Exercise classes.  Place all equipment in assigned area after class and assist in keeping the pool environment I proper order.
• Record class participation counts for all classes as required by the Director.
• Adheres to all YMCA of Montclair policies, procedures, rules, regulations, and best practices, including emergency and safety procedures, and supports the associations’ philanthropy efforts. 
• Position is identified as safety sensitive and subjected to required, random drug testing as scheduled. 
• Attend required staff meetings.
• Resolve all issues or conflicts YMCA members may be experiencing in a professional manner.  Contact Coordinator/Director if needed.
• Responsible for securing substitute instructors as needed and report any schedule changes to the Aquatics Director.
• Follows all YMCA policies, rules, regulations, best practices, and procedures, including emergency and safety procedures. Completes incident and accident reports as necessary.
• Attend required Abuse Risk Management training and adhere to procedures related to managing high-risk activities and supervising members and participants. 
• Report suspicious or inappropriate behaviors and policy violations and follow mandated abuse reporting procedures. 
• Perform other job-related duties as may be assigned periodically by the supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Certifications: Basic Life Support (CPR), AED, Oxygen Administration, & Basic First Aid certification.
• Water Exercise Certification from an accredited organization.

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS

• Ability to lift and pull equipment 50 pounds, and to lift a small to average size child.
• Ability to stand for long periods of time.
• Must be in good physical condition to teach classes. 
• Must have ability to work inside and outside (i.e., humidity, hot, cold, inclement weather conditions).
• Must have ability to concentrate in a loud environment.

HOURLY PAY RATE: Up to $26
