What are the responsibilities and job description for the DIRECTOR HOSPITAL CODING EDUCATION position at Montefiore Medical Center?
The Director of Hospital Coding Education plans, develops, implements, evaluates and updates hospital based coding education programs for individuals who are performing hospital-based coding. S / he, in collaboration with the QDC and CDI Medical Director, will also prepare and provide education for providers, when indicated. This director provides high quality programs and activities that identify learning needs and promote the ongoing development of the Montefiore Medical Center's hospital-based coding program. S / he also functions as a facilitator, change agent, consultant, leader and researcher of all hospital-based coding areas.
EDUCATION / SKILLS :
Bachelor's Degree required.
Coding certifications [examples : CCS, CCDS]
Experience : >
3 years in staff development or demonstrated ability to create goal-focused educational programs
Knowledge of principles of adult education.
Knowledge of program and curriculum design.
Knowledge of technological changes that affect education.
Expert clinical knowledge to analyze a medical record. Prior clinical experience with a documentation improvement program is a plus.
Knowledge of the elements of disease processes and related procedures.
Ability to build effective partnering relationships with providers and other clinical staff, Finance and payer representatives to problem solve and improve quality
Knowledge of various DRG groupings and reimbursement methodologies.
Excellent critical thinking, verbal and written communication skills.
Basic computer skills and knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet and database programs.
Strong organizational and time management skills.
Ability to multitask and meet targets.
This associate may be trained as a coding professional who has hands on experience in an acute care facility / health system.
