Monterey Bay Kayaks is now hiring for kayak guides and general staff for our upcoming spring, summer and fall season. If you’re an adventurous person who wants to spend your day by the ocean teaching people about local wildlife, kayaking, and paddle boarding, this is the perfect place to be! We accommodate student schedules and we promote from within, making Monterey Bay Kayaks a great fit as a fun summer job or as an entry point into the outdoor recreation industry.
Pay rate: $16.50 per hour with potential increases to $18.50 per hour within the summer season. Possible cash tips and bonuses for summer schedule up to $1200.
Full and Part-Time positions available. Students welcome!

Job Requirements-
- Full-Time staff work up to four 10 hour days and must work Sat and Sun during the summer season.
- Part-Time staff must work at least two days a week with at least one weekend day.
- Good swimming ability and very comfortable in the ocean environment.
- Valid driver's license and able to drive to both Monterey and Moss Landing locations
- People-oriented with customer service skills
- Willing to work in a physically demanding outdoor environment and be able to lift & carry boats 50-100 lbs with assistance on a daily basis.
- Able to multitask in a busy, challenging, constantly changing workplace.
Desired qualifications-
- Background in marine, environmental or natural sciences
- Interpretive or teaching experience
- Personal interest in outdoor recreation.
Job Description:
You’ll be assisting lead kayak guides while training to take clients out on your own. When not on tour your duties include-
- Preparing kayaks and gear for tours and rentals
- Instructing customers in proper kayak and paddleboard use and safety
- Educating clients about local wildlife and history
- Working as a team to make sure people are safe and happy on the water
- Cleaning up and putting away boats/gear at the end of the day
Training:
Mandatory training starts April 12th, 13th, 26th, 27th. If you can't make these dates please do not apply
