What are the responsibilities and job description for the Dental Assistant position at Monterey Consultants, Inc?
Join us as a Dental Assistant with the Bay Pines VA Healthcare System located in Tampa, FL.
Duties may include but are not limited to:
- Perform a range of duties assigned by the lead dental assistant and/or the treating dentist.
- Responsible for the set-up/room turnover, chair-side assisting duties, and dental laboratory tasks.
- Using the concepts of four-handed dentistry.
- Assisting with specialty procedures including oral surgery, periodontal therapy, endodontic, prosthodontic and implant placement and restoration.
- Anticipating surgeons/specialists’ needs at each stage of treatment.
- Taking preliminary impressions.
- Selecting and manipulating a variety of gypsums and waxes.
- Pouring, trimming, and evaluating the quality of diagnostic casts.
- Fabricating custom trays.
Anticipated Schedule: Full-time, M-F 7:30A-4P.
Anticipated Period of Performance: 6-12 months starting within the next 180 calendar days.
Qualifications:
- Education. Successful completion of a 1-year dental assistant program accredited by the American Dental Association's Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA). Equivalent combinations of experience and education are qualifying.
- Certification. As applicable: Certification of Radiologic Competence. Following provisions apply:
- Successful completion of the Dental Radiation Health and Safety Examination administered by the Dental Assisting National Board, Inc.; OR,
- Successful completion of the Principles and Practice of Dental Radiology and Radiographic Safety courses and examinations developed by the Assistant Under Secretary for Health for Dentistry. OR
- Successful completion of a radiation health and safety program or examination approved by a state board of dentistry or the Department of Defense (DoD).
- Experience. 6 months experience that demonstrates the applicant’s ability to perform the work or provides familiarity with the work may be used in lieu of formal education program.
- Must be proficient in spoken and written English in accordance with VA Handbook 5005, Part II, Chapter 3, Section A, paragraph 3.j.
- Subject to background/security investigation.
- Must pass TB test.
- Complete an online onboarding process.
- Willingness to comply with Department of Veterans Affairs vaccination programs for seasonal influenza and COVID-19.
- Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.

We deliver a wide range of medical examination-only services to public sectors and the individuals they serve. Our clients include the Department of Veteran Affairs (VA), the Department of Labor, the Department of Defense, and more. Our provider network consists of over 700 providers in various medical specialties and degree types. They conduct diagnostic-only examination services on an as-needed basis. These services may take place in their private office, established clinics located across the country, or during travel opportunities for group screening events.
