Under the supervision of the Site Supervisor and guidance of the Site Supervisor, Lead Teacher, Teacher, Master Teacher, or Designee, the Infant and Toddler Assistant Teacher, works as a member of a teaching team to promote active learning by planning and implementing developmentally appropriate experiences and by creating an environment in which children 6 weeks to 3 years old can experiment, make choices, solve problems and share their experiences with others; assists in maintaining a clean, safe, and orderly
physical environment. Required Qualifications:
Education and Experience:
Possession of a high school diploma, or its equivalent
Eligible for a valid Child Development Assistant Permit from the State of California
Commission on Teacher Credentialing
As prescribed in section 648A(a)(2)(B)(ii) of the Head Start Act, a program must
ensure Head Start Assistant Teachers, are enrolled in a program that will lead to an
associate or baccalaureate degree or, are enrolled in a CDA credential program to
be completed within two years of the time of hire.
Completion with a grade C or better of at least six (6) semester units of college coursework in
early childhood education or child development from the following core areas:
Child/human growth and development;
Child, family and community, or child and family relations;
Completed coursework must include, 3 units, with a C or better OR must obtain within 12 months of
hire:

Infant and Toddler Development
Infant and Toddler Curriculum
Early Childhood Education Curriculum
Licenses and Certifications:
Possession of an appropriate, valid California Driver’s License, and evidence of insurability
CPR Certification appropriate for the age level of assignment within six (6) months
of employment
