Job Summary

Under direction, through individual and group instruction, assists pupils to fulfill their capacities for mental, physical, emotional and social growth; uses teaching techniques appropriate to stimulate their abilities and interests; uses specialized materials, equipment and instructional procedures as necessary to meet the individual needs of blind or low-vision pupils

Requirements / Qualifications

Education and Experience :

  • Bachelor of Arts Degree from an accredited college or university
  • California Teaching Credential authorizing performance of service with programs for the visually impaired
  • Possess specialized techniques and skills pertinent to working with the visually impaired, such as braille reading and writing, training in use of various technological devices and optical aids
  • Background and / or certification in orientation and mobility
  • Knowledge of technology for Braille, large print and talking software
  • Copy of Transcript
  • Credential Copy (California Teaching Credential authorizing performance of service with programs for the visually impaired)
  • Letter of Introduction
  • Letter(s) of Recommendation (3 Letters Required)
  • Resume

Comments and Other Information

Desirable Qualifications :

  • Experience working with children with visual impairments age birth through 21 years of age
  • Experience working with children with severe disabilities
  • Teaching experience in general education programs, elementary or secondary
  • Ability to use Sign Language
  • Bilingual
  • Position will be for the 24-25 academic year
