Leadership and Compliance Lead Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) initiatives across facilities, focusing on goal setting, prioritizing safety and compliance needs, managing capital and operating expenses related to EHS, and establishing robust systems for tracking results and continuous improvement. Collaborate with line and staff management to ensure understanding and adherence to Cal/OSHA and OSHA regulations, providing essential support for compliance, inspections, and citations. Stay updated on changes in federal and state safety laws impacting the organization and act as the company representative in dealings with government agencies regarding environmental health and safety matters. Ensure compliance with the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) and DOT Manifest requirements for hazardous and non-hazardous waste. Safety Program Development and Evaluation Conduct comprehensive incident investigations focused on root causes, corrective and preventive actions, and verification of outcomes. Evaluate hazardous conditions and practices to develop effective hazard control programs. Perform routine safety audits and report findings to facility management, driving continuous improvements. Analyze accident statistics and recommend corrective actions for identified issues, establishing long-term objectives for accident prevention and cost control. Assess the effectiveness of safety management programs and maintain continuous improvement plans. Training and Communication Coordinate and develop training for all new employees on plant safety rules, ensuring alignment with management to foster a strong safety culture. Engage employees actively in safety initiatives, promoting participation and self-responsibility within the safety culture. Leverage Computer-Based Training systems (e.g., Alchemy) to enhance employee safety education and ensure compliance with mandated in-person training. Collaborate with People & Culture Managers to create cross-functional safety processes that enhance organizational effectiveness. Workers’ Compensation and Committee Management Manage workers’ compensation claims effectively, minimizing costs while collaborating with insurance carriers, attorneys, and in-house supervisors. Oversee all activities and record-keeping for the safety committee, managing claims from incident reporting to return-to-work for modified duty, ensuring effective closure. Provide quarterly reports on Total Recordable Incident Rate (TRIR), incidents, training, and other essential metrics for management. Organize and lead monthly regional meetings and safety committee meetings, either in-person or via video conferencing. What we are looking for Bachelor of Science in Environmental Health & Safety (preferably in food safety) or a related field. Minimum of 3 years of professional experience in environmental health and safety, with familiarity in EPA, OSHA, and Cal/OSHA regulations (state and federal). Proven experience in safety hazard identification and remediation in collaboration with local facilities; strong problem-solving, written, and verbal communication skills. Actively engage with the workforce to cultivate a culture of safety awareness and self-responsibility. Willingness to travel to various facilities as required. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and Google Workspace. Bilingual/Bi-literate in English and Spanish. Demonstrated ability to work independently with meticulous attention to detail. Ability to travel to our facilities within the U.S.
