The Position

 

Monterey Peninsula College seeks a full-time, tenure-track faculty member in English. The ideal

 

candidate for the position will share the College's commitment to educating a diverse student

 

population.

 

The duties below are representative of the duties of the classification and are not intended to cover all of the duties performed by the incumbent(s) of any position. Core Instructional Faculty Functions:

 

1. Teach all courses in the English discipline in accordance with the official Course Outlines of Record and as scheduled to meet student and curricular needs and promote equitable student learning and achievement.

 

2. Design and deliver academic courses and programs that reflect relevant discipline and industry standards and support equitable attainment of learning outcomes and achievement of educational goals.

 

3. Assist with systematic review and assessment of academic courses and programs by

 

participating in College processes, including outcomes assessment and program review, to

 

inform improvements and advance equitable outcomes and student achievement.

 

4. Collaborate with other faculty to enhance instruction, develop and maintain curriculum, and support student success.

 

5. Participate in the development and/or selection of course materials, equipment and technology, and online education that will enhance course offerings of the department and support student success.

 

6. Maintain expertise in current teaching methodologies, technologies, and curricula and develop new instructional materials and techniques that meet student and curricular needs and promote equitable student learning and achievement. 7. Provide students with support during regularly scheduled office hours.

 

8. Serve as a member of division, department, and college committees.

 

9. Perform other duties as required by contract, collective bargaining agreement, and general institutional needs in a timely manner.

 

10. Provide instruction and student support at a variety of times and locations--including day,

 

evening, and online and at the Monterey campus, Marina Education Center, and/or other

 

designated locations--that meet student and curricular needs and promote equitable student

 

learning and achievement.

 

Discipline-Specific Functions:

 

• Support and contribute to the English Department's continued implementation of AB 705/1705, which requires all California community colleges to "maximize the probability that a student will enter and complete transfer-level coursework in English and math within a one-year timeframe"

 

• Effectively teach College Composition (ENGL 1A; first semester, transfer-level English), including ENGL 1A co-requisite support sections

 

• Commit to active and regular engagement in on- and off-campus professional development opportunities related to teaching composition

 

Qualifications

 

Minimum Qualifications

 

Master's in English, literature, comparative literature, or composition

 

OR

 

Bachelors in any of the above and Master's in linguistics, TESL, speech, education with a

 

specialization in reading, creative writing or journalism

 

OR

Demonstrate an understanding of, sensitivity to and appreciation for the diverse academic,

backgrounds of students attending a community college.

 

Desirable Qualifications

 

• Demonstrated actions in support of inclusion, diversity, equity, anti-racism, and accessibility (IDEAA) through scholarship, professional development, and curricular and pedagogical practices

 

• Ability and willingness to teach College Composition classes at a community college using innovative, culturally responsive, and student-ready pedagogical approaches

 

• Willingness to take an active role in participatory governance through committee service, department/division meetings, and Academic Senate activities

• A short essay discussing how your experience, education, professional development, and classroom practices reflect your commitment to equity-focused teaching (no more than 500 words)

SALARY

 

Initial salary placement is based on the current Full-Time Faculty Salary Schedule A. The starting salary range is $71,809.00 - $97,377.00 annually, and is based on verification of education and experience for column and step placement. In addition to the base salary, the successful candidate may also earn an annual Doctoral stipend of $3,290 or an annual multiple Master's stipend of $2,332, if applicable.
