What are the responsibilities and job description for the Director of Golf position at Monterey Peninsula Country Club?
SUMMARY The Director of Golf is responsible for organizing and oversight of total golf operation and services offered including tournaments, golf shop, practice facilities, golf services areas, golf cart fleet and supervision of golf operations staff. The position will promote an exceptional golf experience, and provide excellent services and programs for all members and guests.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Oversee the management and performance of all golf shop and applicable department operations and services; assure high standards and total member satisfaction.
Oversee the overall flow of golf course through reservation system, start of play, and pace of play.
Develop and oversee an innovative tournament schedule that services all members segments.
Interpret and enforce all rules and regulations governing golf course usage.
Ensure all services to members and guests are provided in a highly professional and efficient manner with strong attention to detail.
Work closely with Director of Greens and Grounds to initiate strategic enhancements to the golf experience.
Maintain a close working relationship with all department heads and is active participant of executive committee.
Provide oversight to Director of Instructions clinics, golf schools, lessons and player development programs when needed. Teach lessons upon request.
Coordinate and ensure completion of all written correspondence, newsletters, and communications for the golf operations in conjunction with MPCC communications liaison.
Play golf with members of all skill levels as time and duties permit.
Work with Director of Membership to meet, greet and welcome prospective members.
Coordinate and plan with Food and Beverage team for all food and beverage needs for golf events and functions.
Oversee and manage golf operations payroll on a bi-monthly basis; ensure scheduling and staffing are within budgeted parameters.
Develop/oversee a profitable merchandise concession that is consistent with member demographics and needs; oversee and perform a quarterly inventory.
Oversee all fiscal areas and performance for the golf operations inducing planning, budgeting, forecasting, monitoring, and correction. Ensure operations work within budgeted parameters.
Uphold the PGA Code of Ethics
Attend any invited/scheduled management or member meetings.
Oversee the development of operating procedures and training manuals for all golf operations.
Maintain and promote a clean working environment in and around all areas of the Pro Shop, bag room and cart barn.
Assist the Head Golf Professional with personnel-related functions, including interviewing, hiring, terminating, training, performance evaluation, counseling, and discipline relative to the shop assistant staff; carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with Club policies and applicable laws.
Oversee and manage Assistant Golf Professionals and all golf department staff.
Maintain accurate and up to date departmental records and files in accordance with State and Federal laws and regulations.
Schedule regular staff meetings.
Manage the process and facilitate proper controls and accounting procedures to ensure accurate charging to members accounts for the collection of fees from guests, green fees, cart fees, merchandise, and services.
Consistently come to work regularly and on time.
Ensure work environment is safe and Codes of Safe Practices are adhered to consistently. Report injuries timely.

Strong knowledge of the USGA Rules of Golf
Ability to play the game of golf at a level commensurate with a PGA professional.
Excellent computer skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, Publisher, and Outlook and ability to operate standard office equipment.
Ability to manage a group of employees and train, direct, motivate, discipline in accordance with Club policies and State and/or Federal law.
Ability to plan, organize, prioritize, assess problems, and problem-solve to meet deadlines.

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, proportions, and percentages.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university preferred.
Eight to ten years director level golf experience in high end establishment.
PGA Class A member in good standing.
Private club or resort experience preferred.
CERTIFICATES & LICENSES:
Must provide valid document(s) to work in the US.
Valid California Driver License with clean MVR is required.
