Salary Range: $18.85-$22.00 per hour
Daily Schedule: Monday-Thursday, 8:00am-5:30pm (with a 45-minute break), one day off per week
Job Summary
The Toddler Assistant Teacher works collaboratively in two different classrooms throughout the week, assisting Lead Teachers in creating a nurturing and developmentally appropriate environment for toddlers. The Assistant will work two days a week in one classroom and two days in another, maintaining a stable and supportive presence in each environment. Though the Assistant Teacher works four days a week, they will still be paid for 40 hours, provided they complete their scheduled shifts. Assistant teachers are responsible for supporting the Lead Teacher in managing daily routines, engaging with children, and ensuring the classroom is clean and well-prepared. The ideal candidate is enthusiastic about early childhood development, enjoys working in a team, and is dedicated to meeting toddlers' emotional, physical, and social needs.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Support the Lead Teacher in maintaining a prepared Montessori toddler environment, following the curriculum and classroom routines.
- Collaborate with the Lead Teacher to implement lesson plans and engage with children during the work cycle to support their learning and development.
- Create and maintain a language-rich environment by interacting with children throughout the day.
- Assist children with personal care tasks such as toileting, feeding, dressing, and washing, ensuring that each child is treated with dignity and respect.
- Communicate professionally and kindly with parents about their child's day, development, and interactions within the classroom.
- Encourage children's independence by finding a balance between offering help and allowing them to practice new skills (e.g., dressing, face washing).
- Respond promptly and soothingly to children in distress, providing comfort and care as needed.
- Supervise children during outdoor playtime, ensuring activities are safe, engaging, and appropriate for their age.
- Remain attentive, present, and engaged with children during daily transitions, including playground time, lunch, and nap periods.
- Perform daily cleaning tasks to maintain the order, cleanliness, and safety of the classroom and shared spaces.
- Foster a positive, inclusive work environment by working professionally and respectfully with all staff members.
- Participate in weekly team meetings to discuss observations, child development insights, and strategies to support individual students.
Qualifications
- Must be at least 18 and have one of the following:

- A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university
- A 2-year college degree in child development or early childhood education from an accredited college or university or actively pursuing a degree
- A current certification as a Child Development Associate (CDA), or Certified Childcare Professional (CCP) or another Department-approved credential
- Qualify as a professional child care assistant through a combination of hours and verifiable experience in a professional child care setting
- Experience working with Primary aged children (1.3-2.5 years old) in a classroom setting
- Professionalism, including attendance, positivity, and flexibility.
- Strong communication skills and ability to effectively interface with students, parents, faculty, and staff
- High-energy and enthusiastic about working in a fast-paced environment.
- Criminal background check required upon hire.
