What are the responsibilities and job description for the Part Time After-School Teacher - Montessori position at Montessori of Macon?
We are looking for part-time After-School Teachers. The hours for this position are Monday through Friday from 2:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. This is a part-time position, please only apply if you are looking for a long-term position working 15-20 hours per week.
Previous classroom experience is not required. It is required that you enjoy being with young children, are reliable, and are consistent and appropriate when redirecting children.
The role of the After-School Teacher is to maintain the classroom environment and redirect children as needed to promote a peaceful learning environment. Positive Discipline and effective classroom management skills are critical to be successful in this position.
A successful After-School Teacher must be calm, confident, firm but gentle, and respectful of the children. The applicant must be committed to learning about and practicing the Montessori philosophy and passionate about working with children.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Maintain the safety of students at all times.
- Engage positively and professionally with staff and families and models behavior for children.
- Observes and redirects students as necessary.
- Maintains a peaceful and prepared environment to foster student learning.
- Light cleaning is required.
- Communicate effectively with other staff regarding students.
- Read and adhere to the guidelines of the Staff Handbook.
Skills and Qualifications
- The ideal candidate will be passionate about working with children, flexible in doing what is needed to meet the needs of the day, and open to feedback and growing with our school.
- Experience with Positive Discipline techniques and classroom redirection preferred.
- Previous experience working with children is preferred.
- Previous experience working in a Montessori school and/or knowledge of the Montessori philosophy is preferred.
- Candidates should expect to crawl, sit, kneel, go outside in varied terrain and weather, and carry up to 50 lbs.
- CPR and First Aid training are required. Training can be arranged for candidates who do not hold these qualifications.
- Applicant must be able to pass a national criminal background check.
