AFTERNOON LEAD EDUCATOR
Title: Afternoon Lead Educator
Reports To: School Director
FLSA Status: Nonexempt
Schedule:
Flexibility required within these regular working hours of 12:00– 5:30 pm daily, as indicated on MSPI Calendar.
Position Summary:
The Afternoon Lead Educator will take the lead on planning and carrying out age appropriate daily routines and activities. The Afternoon Lead Educator helps to create a positive learning environment guided by the Montessori philosophies and curriculum which will incorporate outdoor learning. The Afternoon Lead Educator communicates well with parents and other staff in the classrooms and school, ensuring a classroom environment that facilitates a peaceful, nurturing atmosphere for learning.
Job Specific Responsibilities:
- Plan, implement and supervise afternoon activities for 5 -10 toddlers (15 months through 3 years old) or 5-10 (3 to 5 years old) guided by the Montessori philosophy. Activities may include indoor & outdoor games, crafts and projects.
- Interact in a respectful and caring manner with the children by carefully observing and actively participating in their play and learning.
- Change diapers and assist with toileting and hand washing as appropriate for the age of the children in your care.
- Maintain a clean and safe environment for the children through general housekeeping.
- Prepare food for snacks and lunches.
- Actively supervise children in the classroom, playground, and during nap time.
- Ensure that all state and local requirements are met for the safety and supervision of the children.
- Refill supplies as needed and help maintain classroom inventory
- Help transition children from the end of the academic day to afternoon activities.
- Communicate effectively and frequently with the Lead Teachers, Parents and School Director:
- Assist the Co-Teacher in supporting each child’s developmental strengths and challenges.
- Complete and share accident/ incident reports appropriately as needed. Make sure that all Parents and School Director are informed of any issues or concerns.
- Greet families and communicate in a respectful and timely manner with parents, sharing positive details of their child’s afternoon.
- Assist with end-of-day duties to clean and prepare school facilities for next day.
- Perform all other duties as assigned by the School Director.
- Attend scheduled staff and school meetings, and required training programs.
- Maintain professional attire suitable to the type of activities carried out during your work and follow school dress code.
Experience and Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent plus an expressed interest in working with children. Past experience in child care is preferred. The Afternoon Lead Educator must have an interest in learning more about Montessori philosophy along with furthering their Montessori education.
- Current Pediatric First Aid and CPR Certification
- Complete Health and Safety Training (SC DSS) within 90 days of hire date

Other Considerations:
- While performing the duties of this job, must be able to talk, hear and see.
- Required to perform light physical work and have the ability to lift and carry children weighing approximately 14 to 30 pounds.
- Required to bend, crouch, lift, kneel, sit on floor and other physical activity to address the needs of the student (e.g. diaper changing, toileting, cleaning, emergency evacuation etc.).
- Responsible for maintaining performance under pressure, and handling stress in a manner that is acceptable to others and to the school.
Professional Responsibilities:
- Keep information pertaining to children, families and staff confidential.
- Be professional and positive in all dealings with parents and children.
- Engage in ongoing self-assessment and refinement as well as collaborative professional growth.
- Participate in a regular evaluation process including setting goals and feedback from other staff and the Head of School.
- Receive at least 15 hours of professional development each year.
- Read and adhere to the guidelines as established in the employee handbook and adhere to all school policies.
- Serve as a member of the school community by participating in staff meetings, program meetings, and social events.

Pay: $13.00 - $16.00 per hour
