Job Overview
We are seeking a compassionate and knowledgeable Clinical Dietitian to join our multidisciplinary team, specializing in eating disorders and mental health in both inpatient and outpatient settings. This role involves assessing, planning, and implementing individualized nutrition interventions for patients struggling with eating disorders, disordered eating behaviors, and co-occurring mental health conditions. The dietitian will work closely with physicians, therapists, and other healthcare professionals to provide evidence-based, patient-centered care.
Responsibilities
Patient Care & Nutrition Therapy:
- Conduct comprehensive nutritional assessments for patients with eating disorders, including anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, binge eating disorder, ARFID, and other disordered eating patterns.
- Develop and implement individualized nutrition care plans (NCPs) tailored to medical, psychological, and behavioral needs.
- Provide medical nutrition therapy (MNT) to support weight restoration, metabolic stability, and mindful eating habits.
- Monitor patient progress through regular follow-ups, adjusting nutrition plans as needed to meet clinical goals.
- Collaborate with psychiatrists, therapists, physicians, nurses, and social workers to ensure integrated, holistic care.
- Support patients in meal planning, food exposure therapy, and mindful/intuitive eating approaches.
- Educate and empower patients on healthy relationships with food, body image, and self-care practices.
Inpatient Responsibilities:
- Provide nutritional interventions for patients in higher levels of care (residential, partial hospitalization, intensive outpatient programs).
- Support patients in structured meal plans and group meal support sessions.
- Conduct weekly weight monitoring and metabolic assessments as part of a team-based treatment approach.
- Assist in tube feeding and medical stabilization when necessary for severely malnourished patients.
Outpatient Responsibilities:
- Conduct one-on-one nutrition counseling in an outpatient clinic for patients transitioning from inpatient care or managing long-term recovery.
- Develop personalized meal planning strategies for sustainable recovery.
- Provide family-based nutrition counseling to educate and involve caregivers in patient recovery.
- Offer group nutrition education sessions on topics such as emotional eating, mindful eating, and nutrition for mental health.
Education & Advocacy:
- Educate patients, families, and staff on the role of nutrition in mental health and eating disorder recovery.
- Stay up to date on current research and best practices in eating disorder treatment.
- Participate in staff training, workshops, and community outreach to promote awareness and support for eating disorders.
- Advocate for weight-neutral, non-diet approaches in patient care, such as Health at Every Size (HAES®) and intuitive eating.
Qualifications & Requirements:
- Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Dietetics, Nutrition, or a related field.
- Certification: Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) required (Florida) Certified Eating Disorders Registered Dietitian (CEDRD) preferred. Serve Safe required. Food Safety Manager preferred at time of hire and required within first 6 months.
- Experience:
- 2 years of experience in clinical nutrition, preferably in eating disorders or mental health settings.
- Experience working in multidisciplinary teams and providing trauma-informed care.
- Knowledge of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), and family-based treatment (FBT) approaches is a plus.
- Skills:
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to build trust and rapport with patients experiencing body image distress and food-related anxiety.
- Experience with meal planning, weight restoration protocols, and intuitive eating principles.
- Comfortable with group facilitation and public speaking.
- Familiarity with electronic medical records (EMR) and documentation standards.
