Salary Information

Compensation plans are based on a multi-step progression system. The pay range reflects the entry level and maximum salary potential in the assigned pay grade. **A starting salary may be negotiated and will be commensurate with education, training and experience in alignment with pay administration policies and MCCP Board Rules & Regulations**

Nature of Work

The fundamental reason this job exists is to operate heavy automotive equipment used for various division operations for the City of Montgomery.� Duties include basic maintenance on equipment, and driving and operating equipment.� Employees operate a variety of equipment such as bulldozers, scrapers, front-end loaders, hauling equipment, and tractor/trailers.� Normally work is performed on one assigned type of equipment, though the employee may be required to operate other pieces of heavy equipment.� The majority of the Heavy Equipment Operator I’s time is spent on large-sized equipment such as bulldozers, lowboys, backhoes, and front-end loaders.� They typically work under the direction of a specialized crew supervisor and may supervise Equipment Operators and Service Maintenance Workers dependent on departmental organization.

Minimum Qualifications

One year of experience in the operation of heavy equipment such as bulldozers, front end loaders, tractors and/or scrapers. NOTE:� Qualifying education, training and experience that provide the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the job will be considered.

Special Requirements

Heavy Equipment Operator I’s must be willing to work in a variety of weather conditions with exposure to the outdoor elements.� They are required to travel across rough, uneven or rocky surfaces at the various work sites.� Qualified applicants must have a Class A or B Commercial Driver’s License.� Some positions may require a Tanker Endorsement.

Kind of Examination
