Montgomery College, Rockville Campus has an immediate need for a Full-time Library Technical Services Assistant in the Resources and Collections department at the MC Library. The work schedule is Monday – Friday 8:30 am – 5:00 pm. This is a Bargaining, Non-exempt, Grade 21 position. Non-exempt positions are not eligible to work a secondary job at Montgomery College. Duties Include But Are Not Limited To
- Processes and maintains orders for the library’s collections via the library’s book and media jobbers and electronic resource vendors, including review and maintenance of embedded order data, electronic invoice data, and bibliographic data from multiple vendors.
- Reviews bibliographic MARC records, checks URL's and configures access, reviews/creates purchase orders, and reviews/creates invoices based on correct ledger fund balances for tangible and electronic orders.
- Assists Resource Description and Acquisitions Supervisor with resource description and bibliographic control, for all materials, including identifying appropriate MARC records, knowledgebase portfolios and collections, editing and reformatting bibliographic and holdings data to conform to the Resource Description and Access (RDA) rules to facilitate access, and support local procedures.
- Works with vendors to triage non-receipt or damage to materials and delayed or interrupted access to electronic resources.
- Assists students, faculty, administrators, and staff with collection access issues, works with vendors, OIT, and others in the unit to resolve these issues, and communicates effectively to all stakeholders on resolution.
- Generates productivity and usage reports for collections via the library services platform and vendor platforms.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Associate degree in accounting, business, computer science, or related field or the equivalent combination of education, training, certification and/or experience that provides the required knowledge and expertise to perform the essential functions of the job may be considered.
- Two years of experience, working in a library, preferably in an education environment, that provides an understanding of the field.
- Familiarity with RDA, Library of Congress Classification, and Library of Congress Subject Headings.
- Knowledge of library management systems (LMS), knowledgebases, and discovery services.
- Experience with OCLC Connexion.
- Knowledge of MARC standards.
