Job Description
The Montgomery College, Adult ESOL & Literacy-GED Special Programs, is currently accepting applications for possible openings as a part-time faculty member teaching In-person GED Math classes during the PM in an educational setting located within a correctional facility. We are seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated teacher who exhibits a high degree of professionalism, a strong commitment to our students, and demonstrates the ability to motivate and educate in an engaging manner.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Montgomery College is seeking an adjunct instructor for its in-person GED classes in an education setting located within a correctional facility at the Pre Release Center (PRC). The instructor will be responsible for:
- Faculty member will be expected to teach all areas required for completion of the pre-GED® (Language Arts, Math).
- Completing detailed, daily reports including tracking attendance and student completion of the course objectives.
- Abiding by all College policies and procedures.
- Abiding by all policies and procedures set by the Montgomery County Department of Corrections.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in one or more of the areas covered on the GED® exam.
- A minimum of 2 years teaching ABE-ASE classes or high school classes.
- Experience working with a diverse population, preferably in a correctional setting.
- Proven experience in delivery of high quality, effective GED® instruction to adult learners.
- Successful candidates will have a demonstrated commitment to promoting diversity, inclusion, and multicultural competence in an educational and work environment and must be willing to contribute to the Colleges strategic plan of inclusion.
- Faculty members are expected to have access to a personal computer with virus protection that can connect to the internet outside of the work location (i.e., office, classroom, college campus)*. Montgomery College (MC) provides an MC e-mail account and access to the learning platform, password-protected faculty sections of the website, college listservs, and other faculty communications tools. *If you do not have access to a personal computer, please notify the department chair at the time of interview. Subject to available funds, the college may be able to provide temporary access to resources.
- Must be eligible to work in the United States without a sponsor.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in one or more of the areas covered on the GED® exam.
- Experience providing high quality GED® instruction in a correctional setting.
- A background in counseling.
As a condition of employment, the following are required at the time of hire:
- Successful completion of 2 background checks – one with the College and one with the Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation.
- Successful completion of a 2-day orientation with the Maximum Security Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation.
For degrees earned outside of the U.S., a copy of your education equivalency, conducted by a nationally recognized evaluation service, must be included in your application.
Employees must live in Maryland or a state where the College has payroll reciprocity (DC, VA, PA, WV, DE, MA).
