Position Description
This position provides a wide range of activities involved in onboarding and admissions, advising, proactive success coaching, and student enrollment. This position will report to the Dean of Student Services. The Success Navigator is responsible for ensuring that students have a quality front- door experience and are connected to institutional resources.
The Success Navigator will work collaboratively with faculty and staff to provide a broad range of services throughout the enrollment cycle to students including advising, registration, and success coaching. This position will participate in on-going professional development trainings related to the College’s student information systems and portals, admissions, financial aid, career assessments, advising; and registration.
Essential Responsibilities
- Participates in new student recruitment activities.
- Provides student success services to current students.
- Serves as the initial and primary point of contact for prospective students through the entire onboarding process.
- Assists students in navigating admissions policies and procedures, answers specific inquiries, maintains contact with prospective students, and ensures completion of application materials of students in the admissions process including, but not limited to, applying, financial aid completion, placement information, academic advising, assistance with registration, transfer information, and payment.
- Teaches students how to navigate the student portals, electronic forms, and other MCC IT resources.
- Assists students in selecting educational programs compatible with their interests, needs, and abilities, administer introductory online career assessments as needed.
- Provides students with initial and ongoing academic advising by assisting with course planning, facilitating student admission and registration, advising students of available support programs and services, and maintaining records of advising contacts.
- Assesses prospective student admission data such as test scores and placement information, reviews transcripts from high school, postsecondary institutions, and other relative documentation.
- Provides information regarding course offerings to applicants which requires familiarity with all curriculum and continuing education programs offered by the college.
- Conducts advising and information sessions for prospective and current students.
- Collaborates with Student Services and other areas of the College to support student success initiatives and to provide students with accurate and timely information to make informed and positive decisions.
- Engages in proactive outreach to a caseload of students, provides ongoing coaching, and connects students to needed resources and services.
- Responds to faculty-submitted and automatically-generated alerts for an assigned caseload of students and identify at-risk students within as assigned caseload of students using reports, retention software, and data.
- Maintains current knowledge base on all resources and procedures related to students.
- Participates in student events including new student orientation.
- Facilitates workshops and training sessions for students as needed.
- Maintains adequate records and assures correct applicant status.
- Responds in a timely and professional manner to student inquiries.
- Regularly attends assigned academic department meetings, engages with faculty/staff, and other departmental meetings, as appropriate, to remain current with departmental policies and procedures.
- Completes annual professional development requirements.
- Serves on college-wide committees as requested.
- Follows and supports College activities, policies, and procedures.
- Performs additional tasks or duties as assigned.
- May be assigned to plan and oversee MCC's student activities program, including the Student Government Association (SGA) and club activities.
- Organize and plan student campus activities such as food trucks, welcome week activities, open house, festivals, and events throughout the year.
- Organize and plan community events and coordinate SGA volunteers.
- Serve as liaison between members of the SGA and College Administration.
- Coordinate the selection process, student leadership training, and annual activities for the Student Ambassador program.
- Develop and administer the Student Ambassador and SGA budgets.
- Coordinate Montgomery Community College student marketing materials such as flyers, SGA Facebook page, and SWAG products for student giveaways.
- May be assigned to plan and coordinate the College's comprehensive and innovative recruiting program, working in partnership with the Director of Community Outreach, the marketing team, and program faculty and academic deans.
Qualifications & Degree Requirements
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in education, counseling, human services, or a related field from a regionally accredited institution.
- Ability to develop relationships and cultivate partnerships with students, faculty, staff and community partners.
- Organization, prioritizing, ability to follow-up in a timely manner, ability to work in a fast-paced environment during peak periods, effective collaboration and team building, critical thinking, problem solving skills, and an understanding of and commitment to the open-door philosophy of the community college.
- Ability to interpret data and to be a multi-tasker.
- Ability to work independently and in team settings with good judgment in decision-making.
- Written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Microsoft Office Suite experience.
- Master's degree from an accredited institution preferably in education, counseling or closely related field.
- Experience in a community college setting working with student admissions, student advising, student support services, and/or student records.
- One year experience in college advising, success coaching, or related field.
- One year experience in retention programs.
- Bilingual (Spanish and English)
