WHO WE ARE

The Montgomery County Police Department (MCPD) is made up of approximately 1,300 sworn officers and approximately 650 support personnel. The Police Department was established in 1922, and today is responsible for providing service to a County with a population of over one million people.

WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR
We are seeking to fill the Administrative Specialist I position within our Volunteer Services Section in the Police Personnel Division. We are looking for an individual that possess excellent customer service skills, strong communication skills to collaborate effectively in a ranked structure with both sworn and civilian personnel, ensuring prompt service in a fast-paced environment, and work independently while performing duties.


What You'll Be Doing

The position will handle planning and managing daily office administrative work and providing professional level Human Resources services to the Police Department.

Duties will include providing reception Monday through Friday during business hours for the Volunteer Resources Section, assisting with recruiting and placement of volunteers and interns.

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Reviewing and updating vacancy lists.
  • Screening applications; scheduling interviews, coordinate background investigations & fingerprinting, negotiating start dates, and preparing appropriate correspondence.
  • Providing detail-oriented support and organization by ensuring proper office functionality and troubleshooting problems while maintaining confidentiality, accuracy and efficiency.
  • Running reports and compiling statistics for the Section
  • Responding to inquiries from internal and external individuals, agencies, and organizations.
  • Assist in identifying work assignments and monitoring work placements.
  • Assisting in planning events and activities for volunteers and interns.
  • Scheduling meeting and calendar maintenance.
  • Providing office coverage in the absence of the Program Manager.
  • Support the Section’s social media presence, including hiring platforms.

Minimum Qualifications

Experience: One (1) year of professional administrative experience in Human Resources or Law Enforcement.

Education: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s Degree.

Equivalency: An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted.

Preferred Criteria, Interview Preferences

  • Experience recruiting and interviewing in a public safety environment.
  • Knowledge of volunteer administration, specifically of dynamic management techniques employed in motivating non-paid workers, as well as the appropriate application of volunteer resources for coordination, training and orientation in a public safety environment.
  • Experience with database management for volunteers utilizing Volgistics as well as Wufoo, Mailchimp.
  • Experience utilizing graphic design software, social media and hiring platforms for marketing purposes.
  • Insight into criminal justice/law enforcement policies/procedures as gained through community involvement, course work, career experience, or volunteer work.
