About the Position
WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR
Employee may be designated as “Essential” for the duration of an emergency event and be required to report to work.
Candidate will need to become knowledgeable of Union agreements, Department Directives, guidelines, SOP’s, and other guiding regulations/laws pertinent to this position. The candidate must have the ability to work independently with minimal supervision and as a team member to effectively lead operations in the warehouse and supply front counter.
Due to the key job responsibilities, this position is not qualified to telework and is an in-person, on-site position only.
This position requires the ability to legally operate County vehicles such as passenger vehicles, vans, and box truck (non-CDL) in performance of job duties including the transport of goods and equipment as needed.
Physical Ability: In addition to performing administrative tasks in an office or at a computer workstation, employee will regularly work in a storeroom/warehouse/loading dock environment, involving the receipt/inventory tracking and distribution of shipments in a receiving area as well as movement of items that are 20 pound or more, and occasionally items weighing approximately 50 pounds. At times, the employee may move heavier items alone, or with assistance, by lifting, pushing, shoving, rolling, leveraging, etc. Employee must be able and willing to climb ladders and operate a forklift and pallet jack.
What You'll Be Doing
The majority of the workday will be spent in direct customer assistance work at the Supply Counter.
Duties include, but are not limited to:
- Providing recommendations on a wide range of gear, supplies and equipment used by the Department.
- Developing specifications for commodities as well as newer technologies that may be evaluated for use.
- Recommending timing of replacement equipment, scheduling of officer fittings, distributing of equipment used in emergency situations and mass issuance of gear for cadet and Emergency Communication Center classes.
- Researching availability and addressing issues regarding specialized and out of stock supply orders and shipments and acting as liaison with vendors to resolve issues.
- Creating purchase orders, DPO’s, processing invoices for payment and utilizing a PCARD.
- Assisting in providing supervision of subordinate workers in the Central Supply facility.
- Attending meetings, updating files, Standard Operating Procedures, and other materials to assist the Logistics Manager as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
Education: Graduation from High School or High School Certification of completion recognized in the State of Marland.
Equivalency: An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted.
LICENSE/CERTIFICATION:
Forklift Certification: Must be obtained within first 3 months of employment; must be maintained throughout employment; If candidate has not already obtained the reference training and certification at hire, the selected candidate will be required to obtain the reference training and certification within the first three (3) months of employment. The incumbent of the position must maintain this certification.

Preferred Criteria, Interview Preferences
- Experience in overseeing inventory for a large/complex agency using automated inventory and financial software systems, creating inventory reports, analysis for spend projections and tracking purchase orders and contact requirements.
- Experience in managing and tracking warranty and expiration dates of serialized assets to project replacement schedules in Microsoft Access or an equivalent database.
- Experience supervising, directing, and managing subordinate personnel.
- Experience in creating supplier requisitions, receiving, reconciling and approving supplier invoice payments electronically in a major ERP financial system such as Oracle or an equivalent system.
- Experience using computers, software applications such as Excel, and ability to use office machines.
- Experience in the safe operation and use of warehouse machinery including, but not limited to pallet jacks, overhead doors, hand trucks and forklifts.
