What You'll Be Doing
Translation Specialists play an important role in removing language barriers for limited-English-proficient communities, establish written translation standards county-wide, and ensure information is effectively conveyed in targeted languages. The primary responsibilities of this position are to work under the direction of the Language Access Manager to:
Bilingual applicants in the Spanish/English languages are encouraged to apply. The candidate selected for this position will be required to pass an Advanced proficiency English/Spanish language examination assessing the following skills: oral communication, reading comprehension, interpreting skills, written communication AND translating text from Spanish to English language and vice versa.
The position will be required to work some evenings and weekends.
Minimum Qualifications
Advanced Level bilingual Spanish proficiency is required for this position.
Education : Graduation from an accredited college or un iversity with a Bachelor's Degree.
Experience : Three (3) years of professional administrative experience related to written translation from English to Spanish.
Substitutions
All Applicants will be reviewed by the Office of Human Resources (OHR) for minimum qualifications. Those applicants who meet minimum qualifications will be rated “Qualified,” placed on the Referred List, and may be considered for an interview. - The Office Community Partnerships is seeking an experienced part time - Spanish Translation Specialist (Administrative Specialist III) to join Montgomery County’s Translations Unit.
- The mission of the Translations Unit is to remove language barriers to County services and programs for limited-English-proficient communities.
- The successful candidate will be responsible for translating County materials from English to Spanish while ensuring cultural competency and linguistic accuracy.
- Translation Specialists work under the Language Access Manager to provide written translations for County departments and must understand regional and cultural divergences within targeted languages.
What You'll Be Doing
Translation Specialists play an important role in removing language barriers for limited-English-proficient communities, establish written translation standards county-wide, and ensure information is effectively conveyed in targeted languages. The primary responsibilities of this position are to work under the direction of the Language Access Manager to:
- Translate, edit and proofread text from English to Spanish,
- Establish translation standards and style guides in Spanish for consistency and quality assurance,
- Provide support to certified multilingual employees, and
- Support the Language Access Manager to reinforce language access policies and procedures as needed.
