What are the responsibilities and job description for the Supervisor of School Safety and Security position at Montgomery County Intermediate Unit 23?
- Minimum of Bachelor’s Degree.
- Minimum of 6-10 years of progressive law enforcement experience and background.
- Ability to work in a team environment and be able to meet various deadlines when applicable. Ability to collaborate effectively with people and be able to support others.
- Will have a good history of reliability and service, and will demonstrate flexibility, a strong worth ethic, and a team-orientation and the ability to work in a highly collaborative environment.
- Ability to work in a computerized environment is required. Must have good management skills and the ability to multitask and think clearly in a demanding environment as well as maturity and discretion regarding communication is required.
- Ability to do job responsibilities with minimal supervision and ability to schedule time to meet deadlines.
- Original certificates of clearance from the State Police, Child Abuse Registry, and PDE FBI.
- Lead efforts to ensure compliance with all safety & security related matters, including, but not limited to emergency operation plans, fire drills, shelter in-place drills, evacuations drill and Facilitates all MCIU’s Safety Committees
- Lead the Montgomery County School Safety & Security Job-A-Like group.
- Administrate, manage, and lead all Safety and Security grants for the MCIU.
- Manage the MCIU’s current Bureau of Justices “Stop School Violence Grant.”
- Proactively seeks out additional grant opportunities to meet the needs of the MCIU safety & security operations.
- Supervise In-house MCIU Security Guards and serve as primary liaison with external security contractors. Ensure all MCIU security personnel meet required school safety training requirements.
- Manage the coordination, evaluation and assessment process for the IU’s safety programs and protocols.
- Manage the implementation of environmental ADHERA documents.
- Manage, facilitate, present, and develop annual ACT 55 trainings for all MCIU staff and develop the annual calendar for training session. Coordinate trainings in collaboration with leadership of each MCIU office.
- Manage regular communications with PA Office of Safe Schools and other federal, state, and local agencies.
- Maintain PA School Safety Coordinator certification.
- Manage safety and risk management policies for compliance with federal, state, and local laws and regulations.
- Facilitates the provision of training and resources to students and staff, relating to emergency procedures and school safety.
- Manages communications between the MCIU and local law enforcement agencies throughout the county.
- Leads the security evaluation of newly leased facilities throughout Montgomery County, as well as annual building school security risk assessment
- Approach work in a cooperative and service-oriented manner.
- Share equipment and responsibilities in a sensitive and supportive manner.
- Understand and support the overall mission of the MCIU.
- Work collaboratively and cooperatively with all Department leaders throughout the MCIU, its staff, faculty, and students throughout each building.

The Supervisor of School Safety & Security contributes daily to the efficient operation of several buildings, grounds, and their security systems, security personnel and protocols.
