Position Overview
Under general supervision of Home Assessment Supervisor, this position is responsible for conducting foster, adoptive and kinship (OTI) home studies.
Summary of Job Duties
Responsibilities will include timely completion of homestudies, accurate record keeping, writing of homestudies, planning and attending matching conferences, outreach to interested families, leading homestudy groups. Consultation to other staff about adoption.
Caseworker conducts foster/adoptive and kinship (OTI) home assessments. Reviews, screens, evaluates and processes inquiries and applications in accordance with state and agency regulations.
Initiates contact; makes required home visits; interviews and assesses prospective foster/adoptive and kinship parents per state agency guidelines.
Completes required data entry. Coordinates completion of required approval/licensing information; writes recommendations and summaries.
Makes judgments regarding applicants' ability to provide foster/adoptive or kinship care to children in agency custody. Orients applicants to the homestudy process and to the practical consideration of being foster/adoptive or kinship family. Refers families to appropriate community services as needed for the home study process. Clarifies role responsibility of foster/adoptive families.
May lead or participate in formal orientation/pre-service training, and/or training sessions for newly licensed foster/adoptive families. Monitors foster/adoptive home information.
Prepares reports, analyzes data, and maintains related records. Attends and participates in case/matching conferences, unit, department and agency meetings. May take on special assignments or work with foster/adoptive family supportive services and recruitment activities as required. Participate in disruption meetings and may offer supportive services to the family.
Participates in foster parent activities and events (i.e., training and recognition events).
Ensures foster homes are in compliance with ODJFS and agency rules, regulations and policies.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications and Requirements
CWC 1 – Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work, Public Administration, Education, or related field; OR alternative, equivalent evidence of the Minimum Class Requirements.
CWC 2 – Master’s Degree in Social Work, Public Administration, Education, or related field. Preference given to candidates with field placements or volunteer experience involving casework responsibility with families and children; OR Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work, Public Administration, Education, or related field and at least two (2) years of related experience preferably in Child Welfare; OR alternative, equivalent evidence of the Minimum Class Requirements.
CWC 3 - Master's Degree in Social Work, Public Administration, Education, or closely related field with two (2) years of experience in Child Welfare, OR Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Public Administration, Education, or closely related field plus five (5) years of Social Work experience in Child Welfare; OR alternative, equivalent evidence of the Minimum Class Requirements.
Driving Requirement: Must maintain a current valid United States driver's license with an acceptable driving record and have proof of valid auto insurance.
