Montgomery County Public Schools is seeking an experienced, motivated, and mission-driven individual to serve as Supervisor of Facilities. This position plays an important role in ensuring our students and staff thrive in safe, well-maintained, and inspiring learning environments across the division.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
Reporting directly to the Director of Facilities, the Supervisor of Facilities oversees the maintenance and operations of all school buildings and grounds throughout the division. This leadership role is responsible for supervising maintenance staff, managing projects and schedules, and evaluating the performance of supervisory personnel within the facilities department.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Schedule, coordinate, and monitor maintenance and repair work for all school division buildings and properties.
- Respond to facility-related emergencies and service requests in a timely manner
- Assist in planning facilities projects, including cost estimates and materials
- Assist in monitoring progress on construction sites and assist in planning for new school construction and expansion
- Assist in the administration of contracts related to construction and maintenance projects
- Ensure that all facilities and operations comply with applicable laws, codes, and safety standards
- Lead, supervise, and support work crews and supervisory staff within the facilities and maintenance division
- Direct the system-wide maintenance program and the personnel assigned to this program
- Participate in the evaluation of the quality of custodial operations and provide oversight of housekeeping standards
- Support HR functions related to maintenance and custodial staff, including hiring, training, performance evaluation, and personnel management
- Perform other related duties as assigned
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Valid Virginia driver’s license
- Experience in building construction, renovation, and maintenance (preferably within a school setting).
- Knowledge of Federal Environmental Laws (e.g. OSHA, Clear Water Act, Radon Act, Asbestos Hazard Emergency Response Act)
- Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills
- Computer literate, proficient in Google Workspace
- Functional knowledge of commonly used office equipment and work-flow technologies
- Effective verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to maintain an unquestionable degree of confidentiality
- Ability to multitask, work with interruptions, and work under pressure
- Ability to be dependable and punctual
- Ability to maintain composure during stressful situations
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree, preferably in facilities management, engineering, construction management, or a related field
- Supervisory experience in facilities management, construction, or building maintenance
- Prior experience working in a public school system
SALARY: $77,241.99 - $139,145.59 annually, with benefits; commensurate with experience
