SUMMARY DESCRIPTION:
Under direction provides direct, consultative, and other program services for infants and toddlers who have developmental delays and/or disabilities of at least 25% in one developmental area. Assesses plans and provides instruction to children, parents and/or caregivers based on developmental norms and each child¿s Individual Family Service Plan (IFSP) in natural environments including, but not limited to, homes and child care settings. Consults with staff (coordinator, program support teacher, related service providers, parent educators, and paraeducators) on family-centered strategies to address IFSP outcomes. Assesses children and works with children and families to prepare them for transition options and services at age three. Provides group toddler experiences based on the learning needs of students. Administers and accurately interprets both formal and informal assessment measures, analyzes data and writes concise educational assessment reports.
CERTIFICATE LICENSE:
Meets Maryland State Department of Education requirements for special education teacher; able to meet Maryland State Department of Education requirements for early childhood special education and suitable qualifications for Infants and Toddlers within reasonable time period.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES:
Knowledge of early childhood intervention to children with multiple developmental delays and knowledge of adult learning strategies for use with parents/caregivers; knowledge of typical and atypical development of children, birth through prekindergarten; thorough knowledge of educational techniques/programming to address multiple developmental delays including technology applications for infants and toddlers; ability to identify problems and generate solutions to address the learning needs of infants and toddlers with delays; ability to develop and assist family members in implementing effective intervention strategies; ability to handle multiple tasks at a time; excellent organizational skills for managing student information; knowledge of early literacy and basic skill precursors to the MCPS prekindergarten curriculum. Excellent communication and human relations skills.
EDUCATION, TRAINING, and EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor's degree in special education from an accredited college or university with preference for early childhood special education degree; background in early childhood human development, developmental disabilities, and working with parents and families; experience teaching infants and toddlers with developmental delays desired; experience working with parents and caregivers in a home-based, family-centered setting desired. Other combinations of applicable education, training and experience that provide the knowledge, abilities and skills necessary to perform effectively in the position may be considered.
