The Montgomery County School Board, Virginia, is now accepting requests for classified staff (support staff) transfers within our division for the 2025-2026 school year. This application is to be used only for CURRENT MCPS classified staff who are requesting a transfer. This is not for candidates who are not yet employed with MCPS and is not for Special Education Paraprofessionals.
Applications will be accepted from January 31, 2025 through February 21, 2025
Voluntary Classified Staff Transfer Request Eligibility and Transfer Procedures:
- A voluntary classified staff (support staff) transfer is defined as a classified staff (support staff) employee moving from one school/department to another to fill a position within their current assignment
- Reassignments within a school/department are authorized by the Principal/Supervisor and do not require the implementation of the transfer procedures
Eligibility:
- The term “Classified Staff” refers to any employee who has been assigned a classified or support staff position and is paid on the classified salary scale. This does not include Special Education Paraprofessionals.
- Voluntary classified staff transfers may be available to classified staff who have received a satisfactory evaluation during their past evaluation period
Process and Guidelines:
- Classified staff employees who are eligible for a transfer and wish to submit a transfer request are required to apply to the 2025-2026 Classified Staff Transfer Request job posting on the division’s TalentEd/SchoolSpring online application system by February 21, 2025
The online system will accept transfer applications from January 17, 2025 through February 21, 2025
- A classified staff employee requesting a transfer must certify on their application that they have notified their current principal/supervisor of the request
- Eligible classified staff employees requesting a transfer may be granted an interview with the principal(s) of the school(s) or supervisor(s) of the department(s) where they have requested a transfer if there is a known vacancy in that school or department. It is at the principal/supervisor’s discretion whether an interview will be granted to a requestor.
- Principals, Directors, Supervisors, and/or other appropriate personnel may be involved in the interview and decision process
- When a vacancy occurs, the transfer request will be granted or denied based on the results of an interview as well as other factors such as professional training, experience, length of MCPS service, certification, administrative and operational needs, recommendations, and/or other extenuating or unusual circumstances
- All transfer requests are submitted and considered on an annual basis
- Classified staff employees recommended and approved for transfer will be notified by the Human Resources Department. Administrator and principals of all locations affected by the transfer will also be notified
- Classified staff employees not selected for a transfer after a scheduled interview will be notified by email through the TalentEd/SchoolSpring system
- Online classified staff employee transfer applications will remain active through the designated time frame for division transfers
Timeline for Interviews:
- All applications, both internal and external, can be evaluated for openings in the division
Internal transfers may be considered from February 21, 2025 through June 30, 2025, and from July 1, 2025 and beyond
NOTE: The description of Montgomery County Public Schools’ Classified Staff Transfer Guidelines is intended to provide clarity in the application of School Board Policy. Per Policy 5-2.8 “Assignment and Transfer”, Classified/support staff shall be assigned to positions for which their qualifications best meet the needs of the school division's operations.
Classified/support staff personnel are entitled to initiate a transfer request for a position within their area of competence and for which they are qualified. Classified/support staff personnel may be transferred to positions for which their qualifications best meet the needs of the school division.
