Behavior Support Specialist

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s Degree required
• Experience in at least one of the following areas: social-emotional learning, mental health, psychology, and/or special education

Job Description:

The Behavior Specialist works under the direction supervision of the Director of Exceptional Children and in coordination with MCS Principals.

Behaviorists provide direct and consultative support to students and school teams that require social-emotional and behavioral support across settings.

Their role is to help the IEP teams create plans to manage behaviors that affect an EC student’s learning; they work with the team to provide a comprehensive approach to behavior management that includes evaluation, data collection, interventions and regular monitoring.

The Behavior Specialist will:

• provide behavioral strategies/interventions and direct services and supports to students identified as PRC 29
• collaborate and provide coaching and support to staff working with students identified as PRC 29
• provide Functional Behavioral Assessments and Behavior Intervention Plans when appropriate for EC students
• review behavior referrals and data reports.
• engage parents in the “student behavior intervention plan” process and empower parents by providing them with skills and techniques to support the positive behavior development of their child at home, at school, and in the community
• attend IEP meetings as necessary
• engage in on-going professional development to increase their own knowledge and skills of positive student behavior support for all students
• comply with all Board policies, practices and procedures, and report all unsafe activities to supervisor
• use ongoing assessments to maintain a record of PRC-29 students’ progress
• complete required monthly and quarterly reports to NCDPI
• organize and schedule monthly behavior team meetings
• maintain Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (CPI) certification
• complete special projects and/or tasks as assigned
