Position Purpose
For the 2024-25 school year, Montgomery School is seeking a dynamic and engaging educator to serve in afternoons and substitute contexts. The teacher should be creative in the use of age-appropriate techniques and technologies, possess strong organizational skills, and model energetic engagement with young children.
This is a ten-month position with the daily hours of 10 am to 6 pm when school is in session. This position reports directly to the Director of Operations
Primary Responsibility
The Afternoons Coordinator and Building Substitute is a dual-role position that combines leadership in after-school programming with support in covering classroom instruction. The Building Substitute serves as a daily resource to provide coverage for teachers in need of short- or long-term relief, ensuring continuity in student learning. The Afternoons Program Coordinator is responsible for managing the daily operations of aftercare. This role involves hiring and training team members, marketing auxiliary programs, collaborating with colleagues and parents, creating and maintaining policies, scheduling programs, and assisting with payroll entry monthly billing and tracking.
The Afternoons Coordinator will design and staff the program, gather necessary materials, and maintain positive relationships with parents and the community while proactively communicating about program updates.
Key Responsibilities:
Building Substitute Responsibilities:
- Provide coverage for absent teachers by following lesson plans, achieving lesson goals, and maintaining classroom order.
- Oversee students during in-class activities, homework assignments, and classroom transitions
- Take attendance, document daily notes, and ensure a clean and orderly classroom.
- Communicate with the regular teacher or supervisor to track and report student progress and classroom events.
- Adhere to all school regulations and policies.
- Serve as a positive presence in the school community, supporting all programs and promoting lifelong learning.
Afternoons Program Coordinator Responsibilities:
- Recruit, hire, and onboard staff for aftercare and school-day-off camps.
- Develop and implement a safe, engaging, and developmentally appropriate curriculum for the afternoons program.
- Ensure check-in/check-out procedures are followed and maintain a clean and safe environment for students.
- Approve and submit hours for afternoons staff members and school day-off camps
- Coordinate with dining staff to provide snacks for the program and monitor supplies.
- Communicate effectively with administrators, parents, and staff regarding all aspects of the afternoons program.
- Work with the Director of Operations on budgeting, location assignments, and program approvals.
- Prepare for and present at school events such as open houses.
- Other duties as assigned to support the school’s mission and ensure the smooth functioning of all programs.
Candidate Requirements:
Teachers should have appropriate education and experience for their desired teaching position. College and Graduate work are looked on favorably when combined with a demonstrated motivation and joy for teaching young children. Experience teaching and leading in schools, youth organizations, and co-curricular spaces is preferred. An interest in thinking boldly, solving creatively, and leading compassionately in the service of children will be rewarded in our process.
