Montgomery Soccer Inc. (MSI) is a community-led youth soccer organization with over 50 years of history in Montgomery County, MD. Our mission is to positively impact the development of youth in our community by providing soccer and personal growth opportunities to players of all ages and abilities. Each year, MSI provides soccer participation opportunities for 10,000 Montgomery County youth, nearly 90% of whom play in both Fall and Spring seasons. We offer a level of play for everyone – from our signature recreation league to competitive travel teams – and invest in the community through scholarship programs and field development. MSI builds strong players, lasting friendships and connects our community through a love of play.

Job Title: Recreation Program Director

Reports to: Executive Director

Job Summary:

The Recreation Program Director will supervise and administer a wide range of programs in the MSI Recreation League from start to finish. The Recreation Program Director will be responsible for the delivery and overall success of each program. You will supervise Program Administrators and inform management on progress and performance.

The goal is to ensure the Recreation program will be delivered successfully and add the highest possible value to our members and the organization.

A successful Recreation Program Director will have a strategic mindset as well as be able to lead and manage Recreation Program Administrators, while coordinating operations and people within the Recreation program.

Ultimately, you’ll ensure our Recreation programs run smoothly and achieve their purpose.

Responsibilities/Duties:

  • Plan and coordinate MSI’s Recreation League from start to completion involving deadlines, milestones and processes
  • Direct communications to Recreation Managers and Coaches
  • Ensure program operations and activities adhere to legal guidelines and internal policies
  • Supervise Recreation League Program Administrators and provide feedback to resolve complex problems
  • Initiate and set new goals for programs according to the strategic objectives of the organization
  • Discover ways to enhance efficiency and productivity of procedures and people
  • Manage communications with Managers and Coaches about the Recreation League uniforms, registration, Coach and Manager Training
  • Work with Marketing Director to ensure appropriate marketing communications and surveys are sent to Recreation League Coaches, Managers and families
  • Ensure the Recreation pages on the MSI website are updated – Marketing Director will manage consistency
  • Responsible for Recreation player account management and following up on player payments, including financial assistance
  • Direct, coordinate and manage scholarship administration for the Recreation Program
  • Track rain-out days for practices during the Fall and Spring seasons (for field payment refunds)
  • Support parent, player and coaching education
  • Lead and orchestrate the Recreation team building process
  • Roster management
  • Increase reporting of good of the game via social media
  • Ensure that all Recreation League rosters are managed appropriately
  • Lead and orchestrate the Recreation team building process, including managing wait lists and creating new teams as appropriate
  • Work with database software to ensure proficient use of technology to support MSI members
  • Work with the Director of Soccer Operations on the Fall/Winter/Spring and tournament schedules for the Recreation League
  • Oversee rescheduling of games as needed in the Recreation League
  • Work with the Business Manager to ensure that all rostered adults have met annual MSYSA requirements
  • Support all grades and programming in the Recreation League
  • Submit appropriate weekly match reports
  • Direct, coordinate and manage equipment distribution
  • Support parent, player and coaching education
  • Volunteer Coach recruitment for the Recreation Program
  • Responsible for Recreation player account management and following up on Recreation team payments, including financial assistance for Recreation players
  • Work with the Director of Coaching and Technical Director to implement FIFA plus sports performance and injury program
  • Work with Director of Coaching, Pre-Academy Director, and Technical Director to execute age appropriate player development programs and curriculum
  • Assist in the planning of tournaments and events from start to finish
  • Keep senior management informed with detailed and accurate information
  • Prepare and monitor program calendar
  • Foster positive relationships between MSI and coaches, managers, and families
  • Work with coaches and managers to ensure the smooth running of the Recreation League
  • Reschedule or rearrange tasks and projects as necessary
  • Manage relationships with vendors and/or partner organizations
  • Resolve issues to keep programs rolling
  • Communicate updates on the programs’ status or problems to senior management
  • Recommend improvements and present ideas for new programming

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Excellent organizational, leadership, and communication skills
  • Experience in people management
  • Great problem-solving abilities
  • Thorough understanding of project/program management techniques and methods
  • Outstanding knowledge of data analysis
  • Proficient in MS Office and in database software

Education/Experience Preferred:

  • BSc/BA diploma in management or a relevant field; MSc/MA is a plus
  • Collegiate or Professional Playing Background
  • USSF Business Education and Training Certifications
  • USSF Coaching Licenses

Additional Requirements:

  • Ability to lift 30 pounds.
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to talk, listen, and speak clearly on the telephone.
  • Ability to work weekends, nights and irregular hours as needed.
  • Ability to work in varying climates including extreme cold and heat.
  • Ability to work in varying physical positions including standing, kneeling, seated, at height and the use of assistance equipment such ladders, lifts, and motor vehicles.
  • Valid Driver’s License and safe driving record.
  • Reliable transportation.
  • Employment contingent upon successful completion of a background check and proof of COVID vaccination.

PERFORMANCE EVALUATIONS AND REVIEWS: Performance will be reviewed after the first 60 days of employment MSI will perform an annual review in December of each calendar year.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $30.00 - $50.00 per hour

Expected hours: 32 – 40 per week
