About the Role:
As a Raft Guide, you'll be responsible for providing a safe, fun, and memorable whitewater rafting experience for our guests. You'll guide groups of 6-7 people, build rapport, and ensure their enjoyment while navigating our unique engineered whitewater facility. This role involves constant interaction with guests and fellow guides (95% of your workday!).
Responsibilities:
- Safely guide guests down the whitewater channels.
- Deliver an engaging and entertaining experience.
- Execute all safety and operational procedures.
- Maintain clear communication with staff and management.
- Provide accurate information to guests.
- Handle guest concerns professionally.
- Assist in developing the rafting program.
Qualifications:
- Minimum 18 years of age (17 and graduating senior considered).
- Comfortable with public speaking and guest interaction.
- Adequate physical fitness and swimming ability to meet safety requirements.
- Energetic, clear communicator with a professional demeanor.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule (weekends, evenings, holidays).
Preferred Qualifications:
- Current CPR, AED, and First Aid certifications (classes offered on-site).
- Previous raft guiding experience (experienced guides may be exempt from training).
Raft Guide School (Required for those without prior certification):
Our 5-day intensive training program will equip you with the skills and knowledge necessary to become a certified Montgomery Whitewater Raft Guide. The program includes swimming, rafting, maneuvering rafts, safety training, and guide assessment with guest for checkoff. Schools begin first week of March and continue every other week as needed. Physical fitness training prior to attending is highly recommended.
Physical Demands:
- Proficient swimming ability (or willingness to learn).
- Comfortable in Class II-IV moving water.
- Ability to guide at least 3 whitewater trips per day and lift up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to maintain professionalism and strong customer service skills.
- Ability to stoop, bend, reach, kneel, twist, and grasp items.
- Ability to work at a fast pace and in stressful situations.
Hiring Timeline:
We anticipate our first raft guide hires by March 11th and will continue hiring throughout the summer. The season runs until November 1 2025.
