What are the responsibilities and job description for the Upper School - Physics position at MONTVERDE ACADEMY?
The Upper School Physics Teacher is responsible for providing instruction in AP* Physics to Upper School students in a classroom setting. The teacher will be expected to instruct students, maintain student discipline, and facilitate student academic achievement. Additionally, he/she will serve as a student advisor for a group of students, and assume other related duties as assigned by the Assistant Head of School/Dean of the Upper School.
Responsibilities:
- Understand Advanced Placement* Physics 1, 2, and C curriculum requirements, and create syllabi, lesson plans, and educational content that satisfy these requirements.
- Create a student-centered learning atmosphere that fosters critical thinking, inquisitive learning, and a positive classroom environment that encourages student participation and discussion.
- Adapt teaching methods to accommodate diverse learning styles and abilities.
- Stay informed about the latest developments in physics education, as well as trends and innovations, and incorporate these into the program.
- Collaborate with colleagues to develop inter-departmental and cross-disciplinary projects and initiatives, including collaborating with the middle and lower school divisions on curriculum and instruction where appropriate.
- Actively support students, providing mentorship and academic guidance.
- Assess and evaluate student performance through assignments, projects, and exams.
- Communicate effectively with students, parents, and colleagues regarding academic progress.
- Maintain complete and accurate records of student attendance and progress.
- Develop and implement policies and procedures for student use of materials and equipment.
- Participate in faculty and professional meetings.
- Seek opportunities for ongoing professional learning.
- Adhere to MVA’s standards for faculty members as outlined in the MVA Employee Handbooks.
Skills and Qualifications:
- A bachelor’s degree in physics or related discipline is required
- Proficiency in physics curriculum creation and instruction.
- High aptitude and interest in technology (hardware and software).
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Outstanding interpersonal skills
- Proven success working collaboratively with students, faculty, staff, parents and community leaders
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to prioritize a multitude of tasks by volume, urgency, etc.
- Strong work ethic and high level of integrity
Preferred Qualifications:
- A master’s degree in physics or a related field
- 3-5 years of teaching experience
- Ability to contribute meaningfully to extracurricular programming
- Experience working in an independent boarding / day school
