MOOD Fashion Studio (part of Mood Fabrics) is dedicated to nurturing both beginners and enthusiasts in Fashion Design. Located in Closter, NJ, our school offers a creative and supportive environment where students of all ages can develop their skills and passion for fashion and sewing. We are looking for an experienced and enthusiastic Sewing Instructor to join our team and help inspire our students.
Position Summary:
We are seeking a talented Sewing Instructor to teach a variety of sewing and garment construction techniques to students ranging from beginners to advanced levels. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in sewing, fashion illustration, a passion for teaching, and the ability to create an engaging and supportive classroom environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and deliver comprehensive sewing lesson plans that align with the school's curriculum and student learning objectives.
- Teach students various sewing techniques, including hand sewing, machine sewing, pattern making, fashion illustration, and garment construction.
- Provide personalized instruction and feedback to help students improve their skills and complete their projects.
- Maintain a safe and organized classroom environment, ensuring that all equipment and materials are used properly.
- Stay updated with the latest trends and techniques in the fashion industry to incorporate into lessons.
- Prepare and maintain instructional materials, including patterns, samples, and reference materials.
- Evaluate student progress and provide constructive feedback and assessments.
- Participate in school events, exhibitions, and open houses to showcase student work and promote the sewing program.
Qualifications:
- Proven experience as a sewing instructor or in a similar role in the fashion industry.
- Proficiency in hand sewing, machine sewing, pattern making, fashion illustration and garment construction.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to engage and inspire students.
- Ability to create a positive and inclusive learning environment.
- Detail-oriented with excellent organizational skills.
- Flexibility to teach day, evening, and weekend classes as needed.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Degree or certification in Fashion Design, Textile Arts, or a related field.
- Experience working in a fashion school or educational setting.
- Familiarity with a variety of sewing machines and equipment.
