Process Development Leader - 231906

Moog Inc.
Elma, NY Full Time
POSTED ON 5/15/2023 CLOSED ON 1/9/2024

What are the responsibilities and job description for the Process Development Leader - 231906 position at Moog Inc.?

THIS WILL BE A POSITION IN DEFENSE

General Functions:

Within the framework of the Company’s objectives, effectively provide leadership, facilitation, coaching, training & mentoring in a team-based organization for the planning, organizing and implementation of strategies, to achieve optimum utilization of resources & a continuous improvement philosophy. The strategies may include, but are not limited to, lean & continuous improvement activities, teaming, process variation reduction, value stream mapping & facilitative leadership.

The Process Development Leader (PDL) will report to a Group &/or Site Manager or Supervisor, depending on the organizational structure in place at the specific operating unit. The PDL may also be accountable to a supporting management team, as well as a member of a team that shares similar responsibilities in the development of process improvements.

With minimal guidance, the PDL will plan, organize and conduct team-based improvement & process variation reduction activities to develop solutions for complex problems that have been identified by the Site/Group management. This will require the PDL to build strategic working relationships at all levels in the organization, from management, who establish specific goals and expectations, to first line process owners and resource managers where improvements will live or die. The planning and organizing process requires an in-depth evaluation of both process and human relations factors. The PDL exercises judgement within broadly defined practices for selecting the appropriate methods and techniques for obtaining the mutually agreed upon goals.

The PDL must possess a competence in “managing for daily improvement”. This position has been designed to give high potential employees an opportunity to develop this attitude and skill set. As such, it is believed that the typical PDL will transition through the levels of this position and may return to a functional or process position of increased responsibility. Therefore, another essential element of this position is to assist in identification, selection, mentoring and development of the next wave of Leaders.

This position relies upon the empowerment of others to accomplish specific goals and objectives. The PDL needs to strike a balance between leading, active participation & coaching to develop the solution(s) and implement them. Their responsibility ideally, is to guide a team or group of individuals through a process that includes rapid cycles of education, application of that education, implementation of a change, and evaluation of results. The process may follow a method commonly referred to as DMAIC. The acronym DMAIC stands for a sequential process that includes phases characterized by --- Define (the problem), Measure (what you currently get), Analyze (the data for understanding), Improve (implement a change), Control (make sure gains are held).

The nature of this position requires the PDL to be strong in a number of unique skills. Above all, the PDL must facilitate change and initiate action by expending a high amount of their personal energy in order to develop sufficient inertia to overcome the friction associated with a highly valued status quo. The ability to develop this inertia is dependent on the PDL having or developing a set of unique skills and attributes. The position is designed such that the PDL may be meeting and working with new people on a continuous basis. These people may have different backgrounds, attitudes and motivations, which will require a level of adaptability not required in most jobs. The PDL may spend a great deal of time in front of an audience in the role of “teacher”. As such, he/she must develop expert technical/professional knowledge on lean principles, process variation reduction, leadership, etc. and be able to apply that learning appropriately in a Moog context to Moog situations. This requires excellent communication and formal presentation skills, with an amount of sales ability/persuasiveness for action leading to results. The PDL is expected to manage conflict when it occurs but may or may not be responsible for discipline issues that may arise.
