Commercial Motor Vehicle Operator

General Overview:

Mook Sea Farm is seeking a Commercial Motor Vehicle Driver to operate our refrigerated box truck and deliver wholesale oysters to Southern Maine and Boston. Our truck does not require a CDL to operate but applicants should have a clean driving record and experience operating large vehicles. We are seeking someone who is reliable, focused, and hardworking. Mook Sea Farm raises and sells roughly 8 million wholesale oysters annually and delivers tens of thousands weekly to our customers. The CMV Driver will coordinate with our sales team, packing plant crew, and the staff at the delivery points to successfully fulfill the critical role of transporting and delivering our live-shellfish product to customers.

Our truck currently runs 3-4 times each week and the regular schedule is Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Shifts start between 8AM – 9:30AM and the driver departs once the truck is loaded. Deliveries typically take between 8-10 hours. We currently employ one primary CMV Driver who is scheduled to work 3 days/week and are seeking a secondary driver to complete any additional deliveries outside of our primary driver’s schedule and to cover any time off taken by the primary driver. The secondary driver will be given the option to work with our grow-out operations team raising and processing oysters when driving shifts aren’t required. We are looking to hire one full-time employee for this position, but part-time applicants will also be considered. Applications will be considered as received. Schedule:

• 1-5 Deliveries each week (Depending on sales, delivery needs, and the Primary Driver’s availability)
• 8-10hr shifts
• 8AM – 4PM depending on traffic, road conditions, and quantity of deliveries.
• The secondary driver will make deliveries as needed. Additional production work is available for applicants seeking full-time employment.

Physical/Personal Requirements:

• Must be able to lift and move up to 50 pounds at a time.
• Must be able to remain mentally & physically engaged for prolonged periods of time while sitting in a truck cab.
• Must be flexible regarding shift end times which will vary for several reasons.
• Must pass a DOT Physical prior to employment and at regulated intervals throughout employment.
• Must maintain a clean driving record and participate in required screenings/physicals associated with the position.

Duties/Responsibilities:

• Operate a large (10,001-26,000 GVWR) 22-foot Box Truck according to applicable state and federal transportation laws.
• Transport/deliver live seafood to Massachusetts from our farm location in Walpole, ME in a safe and timely manner.
• Follow the required route, obeying all traffic laws and observing all safety regulations.
• Deftly maneuver truck and trailer into loading and unloading areas, following loading crew signals.
• Load and unload product, using specialized equipment as needed.
• Return the work truck to Mook Sea Farm upon completion of deliveries each shift.
• Understand the safety protocols associated with loading docks and packing areas.
• Retain signed invoices, shipping bills of lading, and other required paperwork and deliver documentation to appropriate staff when delivery route is complete.
• Retain mileage records and FMCSA regulated records including records of on and off duty hours.
• Manage and complete routine maintenance and maintenance checks of the truck.
• Report any vehicle malfunctions to supervisor (Including but not limited to, checking oil, water, gasoline, and tire-pressure).
• Report any driving incidents to supervisor.
• Work cooperatively with team.
• Complete tasks responsibly without active supervision.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Skills, Abilities, Education, and Experience:

• A valid driver’s license and a clean driving record are required.
• A CDL is not required but applicants with a CDL are encouraged to apply.
• Previous experience operating a large vehicle is required. On-the-job training will be provided.
• Our CMV Driver must have strong interpersonal and customer service skills with the ability to speak professionally and courteously with customers and the staff at our delivery points.
• Our CMV Driver should be capable of remaining focused and calm in stressful situations.
• Experience driving long distances is important.
• Drivers should be capable of thinking on their feet and solving problems as they arise.
• Knowledge of US DOT/FMCSA regulations related to the industry are preferred; willingness to learn and take responsibility for industry knowledge is required.
