Chief Financial Officer (Tokyo)

We are looking for a Chief Financial Officer who will be responsible for all financial affairs and financial strategy for Moon Creative Lab and Moon Creative Ventures for our studios in Palo Alto, California, and Tokyo. The CFO will manage our company’s financial functions, including accounting, reporting, systems, budgeting, and forecasting. You will also work closely with the MCV team on investment decisions, portfolio management, and governance. You must be a hands-on, roll-up-your-sleeves type of leader and should thrive in a fast-paced, start-up environment.

In this position, you will also be able to leverage your experience, skills, and mindset to help us create and launch human-centered businesses. You will work across multiple teams to achieve our ambitious growth agenda. Although you are based in Moon’s Tokyo studio, you will liaise with not only our Japanese vendors, Mitsui colleagues, and Moon project teams but also our contacts based in the US and other countries.

What You’ll Do at Moon

Financial Strategy

You will develop and execute Moon Creative Lab and Moon Creative Venture’s financial strategy to support Moon’s growth, development, and profitability goals.

Financial Planning & Analysis

You will oversee budgeting, forecasting, and financial modeling to inform decision-making and strategic initiatives.

M&A and Investment

You will support M&A activities with the MCV team, including due diligence, financial modeling, and integration. You will also offer support on our existing investments with consolidation and cash flow strategy.

Board & Investor Reporting

You will manage the financial reporting to the Moon Board and any future investors, delivering updates and insights on company performance and projections.

Regulatory & Compliance

You will ensure accuracy in financial reporting, compliance with regulatory requirements, and uphold strong internal controls.

Treasury Management

You will direct treasury functions to optimize cash flow, investment, and financial performance.

Finance Team Leadership

You will lead and develop the Finance Team, promoting a culture of excellence, accountability, and continuous improvement in alignment with Moon’s Core Values.

Risk Management

You will identify and manage financial risks to protect Moon’s assets, mitigate exposure, and support long-term resilience.

The Must-Haves

• A bachelor’s degree or equivalent working experience with an MBA preferred
• 10 years of relevant experience in a senior financial leadership role, preferably with some institutional investment experience
• Strong knowledge of financial regulations, accounting standards, and compliance requirements
• Strong understanding of JGAAP and IFRS
• Comfort and familiarity with accounting software such as Freee and Quickbooks, as well as expense software such as Expensify
• Exceptional analytical skills with a strategic mindset and the ability to drive financial performance
• Ability to take ownership of tasks and be a self-starter in a fast-paced and sometimes ambiguous environment
• Outstanding verbal and written communication in Japanese
• Strong collaboration and interpersonal skills
