Job Summary
The Director of Data and Business Intelligence is responsible for overseeing the data collection, data management, data analytics, and business intelligence functions for Moon Valley Nurseries. This leadership role entails developing and implementing strategies to enable decision-making, drive business growth, and enhance operational efficiencies. This position requires a visionary leader with the ability to transform data into strategic assets that drive organizational value.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership:
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify data requirements and business opportunities
- Develop and implement an overall BI strategy for the organization
- Lead and mentor a team of data and BI professionals
Data Management:
- Oversee overall company data architecture to ensure data integrity, accuracy, security, and accessibility of all company data (sales, inventory, customer demographics, etc.)
- Consolidate data across multiple platforms
- Implement best practices for data governance and compliance
- Automate the collection, transformation, and data reporting processes
- Create a data-as-a-service platform, enabling self-service reporting for business leaders
Business Intelligence & Analytics:
- Manage the design and implementation of BI tools and dashboards.
- Provide actionable insights to support business initiatives and performance enhancements
- Leverage tools such as machine learning to forecast future trends and business opportunities
Collaboration & Communication:
- Communicate data insights and strategies to senior leadership and stakeholders
- Present complex data in business-friendly terms to non-technical audiences
- Summarize findings with actionable insights
- Train stakeholders to effectively use BI tools
Innovation & Improvement:
- Stay abreast of industry trends and emerging technologies in data analytics
- Drive continuous improvement in data processes and reporting
Qualifications: Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Proven experience in data management, analytics, or business intelligence leadership roles
- Strong analytical, strategic, and problem-solving skills
- Excellent communication and team management skills
- Proficiency in Business Intelligence (BI) tools
- Other duties as assigned
Education
Bachelor’s degree in data science, computer science, or a related field; master’s degree is preferred
Physical requirements/Working Conditions
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing all day. The employee must frequently lift and/or move items over 15 pounds. Able to work outdoors for extended periods of time in possibly extreme conditions, including rain, heat, sun, and wind.
