We are looking for an experienced residential architect who wants to be part of our supportive, high performing team.

This is a full time, in-office position in our East Austin headquarters.
Based on licensure and previous experience our base compensation range is: $75,000 to $90,000.

Architects in our office serve as the primary guide for a homeowner by imagining, designing, and planning their projects.  
Construction Administration by the architect is ALWAYS included in our projects ensuring that design intent has a champion throughout the build.

5 or more years of experience is required. (this is not an entry level position)
 
Software we use in our Mac and iPad based office: 
ArchiCAD, Morpholio Trace, Adobe Creative Suite, Keynote, Google Sheets, Slack, and Construction Online.

Design & Production

  1. Maintain proficiency in Google G-Suite, ConstructionOnline, Archicad, Twinmotion, Morpholio, Illustrator, InDesign and Photoshop.
  2. Maintain knowledge and understanding of the local permitting process, codes, and ordinances to ensure that proposed designs are compliant.  Continue to develop knowledge of building science and construction best practices.
  3. Schedule and manage the BIM support team workload to meet design milestone goals.
  4. Produce drawing sets and design presentations in accordance with company quality and graphic standards.
  5. Coordinate with the Interior Designer to maintain up to date project finish schedules.  
  6. Continue to develop and deepen your knowledge of diverse styles, aesthetics, and techniques.  It’s important to always be learning, challenging yourself, and honing your craft.
  7. You are encouraged to connect with the community and attend lunch and learn presentations, AIA events, as well as studio, shop, and gallery tours with the Moontower team.  These events provide inspiration, education, spark creativity, and create opportunities to build or deepen relationships within the community.

Design Project Management

  1. Maintain a list of deliverables and tasks per project, updated biweekly.  Be ready to report on completed and upcoming tasks at biweekly GSR meetings.  Come prepared and complete the GSR prep prior to each meeting.
  2. Maintain a design project schedule on ConstructionOnline, updated biweekly.  Meet monthly invoicing goals by hitting milestone meetings in accordance with the project schedule.
  3. Maintain file management so that project information is easy to locate and access.
  4. Maintain regular communication with the project team including but not limited to the estimator, purchaser, project manager (PM), and the design director throughout the project to ensure that all project progress is on track. 
  5. Schedule and manage consultants to meet design milestone goals, including but not limited to the structural engineer, geotechnical engineer, civil engineer, landscape designer, and pool contractor.  Ensure all necessary consultants are notified and arranged with their respective lead times to prevent delays.
  6. Design to the project budget.  Collaborate closely with the estimating team throughout the process to keep the scope and budget goals aligned.

Design Client Management

  1. Manage client expectations in regards to the design scope, quality, schedule, and budget. 
    1. At every client meeting:
      1. Present an agenda and cover all agenda topics.
      2. Provide a schedule update and explain the next steps in the process.
      3. Take thorough notes and follow up with meeting minutes and presentation documents.
    2. Update clients when a change occurs in project expectations (budget, quality, schedule) as quickly as possible.  Perfect is the enemy of progress here, we want to eliminate clients saying “I wish I would have known sooner.”
    3. Oversee any client complaints and ensure they are resolved in a timely manner. 

Construction Administration & Project Completion

  1. Provide quality control and design oversight via biweekly site meetings and milestone meetings with the PM and clients throughout construction.  Meet with the PM prior to each meeting to review the agenda and contribute to the meeting minutes after each meeting.
  2. Support the PM’s by making sure that Change Orders are approved in writing and by email.  Approval is required from the PM, designer, and client before commencement of the work.
  3. Respond to RFI’s from the PM and provide additional information and revised drawings as required throughout construction.
  4. Collaborate with PM on the Punch List to ensure full client satisfaction and that all deficiencies have been taken care of prior to final sign off of project completion.
  5. Coordinate the selection and delivery of a client gift with the Office Manager at the completion of the project.
  6. Work with the Sales Director to facilitate project completion photography.

Administrative Responsibilities

  1. Attend biweekly GSR meetings (Goal Setting & Review).
  2. Attend biweekly design team meetings.
  3. Attend monthly company wide meetings.
  4. Maintain an accurate timesheet submitted on a weekly basis (daily entries are encouraged).
  5. Follow company standards and policies including but not limited to file management, file naming conventions, email conventions and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  6. Maintain a clean and tidy work environment.
  7. Maintain an accurate timesheet submitted on a weekly basis (daily entries are encouraged) and track mileage for reimbursement.
  8. Report directly to the Design Director.  The following will require sign off and/or notification of the Design Director:
    1. Paid time off requests.  Time out of office during standard work hours.
    2. Any serious injury or accident occurring on a Moontower job site.
    3. Any liability, warranty or damage issue.
    4. Any incidence of fraud or theft within the company.
    5. All purchasing of new tools.
    6. Any incident involving damage to Moontower or customer’s assets.
    7. A serious breach by an employee or stakeholder of our corporate values.
    8. Major strategic, cash, people or brand initiatives.
