What are the responsibilities and job description for the Veterinary Technician position at Moore County Government?
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES
Performs responsible skilled work ensuring the humane care of County sheltered animals and the maintenance of equipment, vehicles, and shelter facilities; supervises personnel engaged in animal care functions at the shelter; performs related tasks as required. Must be able to work weekends and for emergencies if necessary. Work is performed under general supervision of the Animal Operations Director.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS
- Working knowledge of agency, local, state, and federal regulations related to animal welfare, shelter operations, and public health
- Thorough knowledge of County ordinances and federal and state laws pertaining to the care, control, and handling of a variety of animals
- Thorough knowledge of County and departmental core values, mission, and operating policies and procedures
- General knowledge of basic animal husbandry and behavior principles
- General knowledge of various animal diseases and their symptoms
- General knowledge of computer software used to interpret data, prepare documents, and develop proposals
- Skill in the identification of a variety of breeds of dogs, cats, and other domestic animals
- Skill in handling of all types of animals including dogs, cats, birds, wildlife, and reptiles
- Skill in the proper, safe, and humane procedures for animal inoculation and euthanasia
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and the general public

Pay: $50,123.00 - $75,185.00 per year
