Job Summary:
The Safety Supervisor is responsible for implementing and enforcing safety programs to ensure a safe and compliant work environment within the beef rendering facility. This role involves conducting safety inspections, training employees, investigating incidents, and ensuring compliance with OSHA, EPA, and company safety policies.
Key Responsibilities:
Develop, implement, and enforce safety policies and procedures in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
Conduct regular facility inspections to identify hazards and recommend corrective actions.
Lead safety training sessions, including new hire orientations, emergency response, PPE use, and lockout/tagout procedures.
Investigate accidents, near-misses, and injuries; prepare reports and recommend preventive measures.
Ensure proper handling, storage, and disposal of hazardous materials in accordance with environmental and safety standards.
Monitor and enforce the use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
Collaborate with supervisors and management to promote a culture of safety and continuous improvement.
Maintain accurate safety records, including OSHA logs, training documentation, and incident reports.
Support the development of emergency preparedness and response plans.
Conduct Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs) and risk assessments for facility operations.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED required; Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Science, or related field preferred.
3 years of experience in safety supervision, preferably in food processing, rendering, or manufacturing environments.
Knowledge of OSHA, EPA, and industry-specific safety regulations.
Strong communication and leadership skills to influence safety culture.
Ability to conduct training and engage employees at all levels.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) for reporting and documentation.
First Aid/CPR certification preferred.
Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus.
Work Environment & Physical Requirements:
Exposure to extreme temperatures, high noise levels, and strong odors associated with beef rendering operations.
Must be able to stand, walk, and climb stairs/ladders in an industrial environment.
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs occasionally.
Availability for on-call response to emergencies.
