Job Summary: An Equipment Operator plays a vital role in operating heavy machinery and supporting skilled tradespeople in construction projects. While the primary responsibility is equipment operation, this position also involves manual labor tasks as needed to ensure the timely and high-quality completion of projects.
Key Responsibilities:
Site Preparation:
- Clear debris, trees, and other obstacles from construction sites.
- Assist in setting up and dismantling scaffolding, barriers, and other temporary structures.
Material Handling:
- Load and unload construction materials.
- Distribute materials to designated locations on the site.
Construction Tasks:
- Dig trenches, lay foundations, and perform other basic construction tasks.
- Mix, pour, and spread concrete, asphalt, and other materials.
Tool and Equipment Operation:
- Safely operate hand tools, power tools, and heavy machinery such as Excavators, Backhoes, and Skid Steers.
- Maintain and store tools and equipment properly.
- Conduct pre-trip inspections of vehicles to ensure safety and compliance with regulations.
Safety Compliance:
- Follow safety protocols and wear the necessary protective gear.
- Report any safety hazards or incidents to the site supervisor.
- Follow all Railroad policies and procedures related to transportation and equipment operation.
Team Collaboration:
- Work closely with other labourers and skilled tradespeople.
- Assist in training new labourers as needed.
- Collaborate with team members to ensure timely completion of tasks while adhering to safety standards.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Previous experience in construction is an asset but not required.
- Ability to perform physically demanding tasks.
- Strong work ethic and reliability.
- Knowledge of safety protocols and willingness to follow them.
- Must be able to pass a drug test.
- Must be 21 years or older.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to communicate with all levels of employees and customers.
- Must be able to travel 100% of the time with Per Diem.
- Must have a valid driver’s license as well as CDL (preferred) within 90 days.
- Ability to pass drug screening and background check.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift heavy objects, bend, kneel, and stand for long periods.
- Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
- Tolerance for working in various weather conditions.
- Frequently performs physical activities that require considerable use of the arms and legs and moving the whole body, such as standing, lifting, walking, stooping, bending, reaching, and handling of materials, equipment, and tools.
- Uses hands and fingers to operate equipment and tools.
- Lifts, pushes, pulls, and carries heavy objects, machinery, and tools up to 50 pounds.
- Works around vehicles and machinery with moving parts.
- Exposed to exhaust fumes, gasoline, and diesel fuel.
- May be exposed to harsh weather conditions.
- May be exposed to loud noise.
Work Hours:
- Varies by project; may include early mornings, weekends, and overtime.
- 100 percent travel. Work schedule is Tuesday to Tuesday, 8 days on, 6 days off, 10-hour days. Travel to location on your own time.
· Airline travel and hotels are paid by the company, with a $50 per day allowance for meals and incidentals.
