Duties
Under general supervision, the Community Service Officer protects institutional property against fire, theft, vandalism, and unauthorized entry; performing the following listed principal responsibilities to provide service to the college students, staff, and visitors in accordance with most recent established procedures and directives. Aid, as instructed or in the absence of orders, in disaster control, i.e. bomb threats, fire, explosions, and tornados. The Community Service Officer is dedicated to the learning college concepts by developing programs and facilitating activities that promote student success and lifelong learning.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Patrols buildings and grounds of college institution by motorized or foot patrol to deter and report crime, enforce non-criminal violations and provide service to staff, students, and visitors.
- Watches for and reports irregularities such as fire hazards, leaking water pipes, and security doors left unlocked.
- Observes departing personnel to guard against theft of company property.
- Sounds alarm or calls police or fire department in case of fire or presence of unauthorized persons and assist with building captain communication.
- Permits authorized persons to enter property.
- Locks or unlocks college buildings as assigned or directed by most recent procedures.
- Gives basic first aid to persons injured or college property as directed or in accordance with most recent procedures.
- The Community Service Officer is accountable for department policies, procedures, applicable rules and work requirements.
- Performs related duties as assigned.
- Performs desk relief and maintain desk competency along with a current LEADS certification.
- Assists in matron duties when designated as matron trained.
- Assists with the coordination and completion of evacuations during emergencies.
Education / Experience A minimum of three (3) months of related experience and / or training with a minimum of 30 hours of college credit hours at the time of application OR a minimum of one (1) year related experience with training required. Must possess a valid driver’s license. Please ensure you list qualifications clearly in your resume.
Must be able to successfully complete the certification program for Law Enforcement Agencies Data System (LEADS) and maintain current LEADS certification.
