POSITION SUMMARY:
The Purchasing and Inventory Control Specialist plays a critical role in ensuring Morcon's operational success by managing procurement and inventory processes. This position is responsible for analyzing inventory levels, processing purchase orders, and maintaining strong supplier relationships to ensure the timely availability of materials. The specialist will collaborate closely with operations, finance, and warehouse teams to optimize inventory flow, control costs, and support seamless business operations. This role requires a strategic approach to balancing supply and demand while driving efficiency and cost-effectiveness across the supply chain. The position is currently located in Eagle Bridge NY and will be relocating to Saratoga in Q2.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Procurement:
· Collaborate with internal stakeholders to review purchase requests, ensuring alignment with specifications, quantities, and delivery requirements for finished goods, raw materials, supplies, equipment, and services.
· Create, process, and monitor purchase orders through the ERP system or directly with vendors, ensuring timely and accurate fulfillment.
· Source and obtain competitive quotes for non-contracted purchase requests or solicitations, ensuring cost-effectiveness and value.
· Analyze procurement data to identify opportunities for cost savings through group purchases or consolidated shipments.
· Proactively address pricing discrepancies and supplier-related issues, escalating unresolved matters to the Sourcing and Supply Chain Director.
· Evaluate suppliers based on key performance metrics, including cost, quality, and delivery timelines, to ensure optimal vendor performance.
· Collaborate with the Sourcing team on supplier selection and evaluation, driving performance improvements and mitigating risks related to supply chain disruptions and extended lead times.
· Develop and implement approved sourcing strategies that focus on performance optimization and cost reduction, leveraging an understanding of customer needs, market trends, and innovation opportunities.
· Ensure compliance by maintaining accurate and up-to-date records of all purchases, contracts, and supplier agreements.
Inventory Control:
· Collaborate with the Planning Team and utilize the ERP system to optimize inventory levels, ensuring efficient tracking of products and materials.
· Monitor stock levels proactively and implement adjustments to prevent stock outs and minimize overstock, maintaining optimal inventory balance.
· Assess inventory needs based on demand forecasts and production schedules, striving to minimize excess stock while meeting operational requirements.
· Develop and maintain strong relationships with suppliers and vendors to ensure a consistent and reliable supply chain.
· Identify and resolve inventory discrepancies or supplier-related issues in a timely and efficient manner to minimize disruptions.
GENERAL:
- Continually analyze process and procedures for opportunities to eliminate waste, streamline for efficiency and utilization of emerging tools and techniques.
- Understand the end user and work with cross-functional resources to convert customer specifications into a functional product that aligns with business objectives, quality requirements, and cost objectives.
- Responsible for all administrative tasks associated with the department such as budgets, presentations, metrics tracking and reporting, performance management, and other responsibilities as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
· Previous experience in purchasing, procurement, or inventory control (typically 2-5 years).
- Strong understanding of inventory management systems (e.g., ERP or WMS software).
- Knowledge of supply chain best practices and vendor management.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively manage strategic supplier relationships, including relationship building, performance, development and integration.
- Demonstrated understanding the importance of customer service and internal stakeholder management.
- Results-oriented and demonstrated ability to effectively manage multiple priorities simultaneously and meet critical deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong analytical skills, including a demonstrated ability to synthesize, interpret, and communicate market and competitive data
- Strong organization and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, as well as teamwork and interpersonal skills, to include the ability to develop high quality working relationships both internally and externally with customers and suppliers.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding proprietary company information.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, etc.) and data analysis tools.
