Job Summary
Performs tasks which require minimal training and that can be learned relatively easily and involve few decisions. Positions are typically clerical or non-technical in nature and may involve basic computer usage.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Duties and responsibilities will typically involve repetitious tasks such as making copies, filing, picking up and sorting mail, answering telephones, running errands, etc. This position will require limited contact with internal and external customers. Other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Must be a current MSU student
Must maintain satisfactory academic progress
Must feel comfortable using nominal judgment and possess basic analytical or decision-making skills
Must have the ability to understand and to follow written and verbal instructions

Additional Desirable Qualifications
The student worker must possess the ability to communicate clearly as the majority of the work is done on the telephone. Maintaining polite and courteous behavior to all customers during peak business times is another essential skill. The worker must be able to handle high call volume and walk-in questions during peak time and be able to handle stressful situations with tact and respectful manners.
Student workers will be expected to be able to operate a basic fax machine as well as have a working knowledge of Microsoft Windows systems such as Word and Excel programs. Being highly organized and self-motivated would also be strong characteristics that would be helpful in someone applying for this position.

Physical Requirements
Working Conditions
The work environment is an office setting. Student workers will be required to wear appropriate clothing. This would mean no clothing with profanity or clothing representing other colleges or universities. Because the worker may be required to do minor lifting (such as placing paper reams in cabinets), workers should also not wear clothing that could be revealing when bending over.
The primary desk where the student worker will be stationed is located under an air vent. If the student worker has any breathing problems, this could be an issue. The student worker should bring a small, lightweight jacket in case they are too cold under the vent.
Student workers will be required to have transportation to the office in order to maintain their work schedule. The will need to be able to answer telephone calls in English and learn how to transfer calls to appropriate personnel. The worker will need to be able to physically lift items such as paper reams and display boards (approx. 20 pounds maximum).
Student workers will not be allowed to use office computers for personal access, such as email, social networking sites (Facebook, Myspace, etc.) or completion of school work (papers, class assignments, etc.). Student workers will not be permitted to bring personal laptop computers to work. Student workers may only use personal cell phones in the event of an emergency. Student workers may give out the main Accounting and Financial Services phone number if a parent needs to reach them in an emergency. This should only be used in an emergency situation and not for casual discussion. If student workers are seen text messaging or conversing on cell phones, they will be asked to put away their cell phone. If this behavior persists or is deemed to be interfering with work, the student worker will be given a verbal warning, then a written warning, and then terminated.
