Performance Responsibilities:
- Develop and discuss the comprehensive school counseling program with the school administrator.
- Communicate the goals of the comprehensive school counseling program to education stakeholders.
- Implement developmentally appropriate and prevention-oriented group activities to meet student needs and school goals.
- Assist all students, individually or in groups, with developing academic, personal/social skills, goals and plans.
- Accurately and appropriately interpret and utilize student data.
- Consult and collaborate with parents/guardians, teachers and staff to assist students with identified concerns or needs.
- Provide individual and group counseling to students with identified concerns and needs.
- Implement effective referral and follow-up process.
- Accurately use assessment procedures for determining and structuring individual and group counseling services.
- Provide appropriate information to staff related to the comprehensive school counseling program.
- Actively participate on IEP team: assess, create goals, and provide direct services.
- Provide training to staff and parents on social/emotional topics.
- Monitor student academic performance, behavior and attendance and assist with appropriate interventions.
- Assist students in building self-esteem and developing decision-making, problem-solving, and positive human relations skills.
- Stimulate in students the development of positive self image, personal responsibility, and pride.
- Plan with teachers, principal, parents/guardians, and students steps for modifying student behavior.
- Utilize community resources in addressing the needs of students.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Valid California Pupil Personnel Services Credential authorizing School Counseling services.
- Bachelor’s degree including all courses to meet credential requirements.
- Successful student teaching, internship, or full-time counseling experience.
- Experience with Cognitive Based Therapy Preferred MSW or MFT.
- Preferred Bilingual in Spanish.
Knowledge and Abilities:
- Ability to facilitate communications between students, school and District officials and law enforcement personnel.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where limited standardization exists.
- Patrol school buildings, yards and parking areas to maintain order and prevent illegal acts.
- Assure student compliance with school and district policies and regulations.
- Perform duties with patience, tact and good judgment.
- Learn District organization, operations, policies and objectives.
- Prepare records and reports.
- Interpret, apply and explain rules, regulations, policies and procedures.
- Read and write English at a level required for successful job performance.
